Ox and Finch

 Ox and Finch, Glasgow

A newly opened restaurant named Ox and Finch has been now opened in Glasgow, having begun onsite in February this year.

This eatery is one which promises to deliver a contemporary dining experience in a relaxed setting.

The restaurant has undergone an extensive renovation, merging features of the building’s original 19th century appeal with a contemporary feel, created by the open kitchen. The open kitchen allows diners the chance to view the live environment of a high end kitchen, and watch their food being made in front of their very eyes.

The main contractor for the project was a company named CNC Design Ltd who alongside Stuart Black, the main interior designer, ensured a successful completion of the new establishment.

The project involved taking an existing restaurant which had originally been created from two adjoining shops, and stripping down the premises right back to its architectural fabrics. This meant exposing all of the brick walls as well as the original structural shop front interior.

The construction also involved developing the basement to allow for new toilet facilities, and as one unit had been restored into two these additions were necessary. The project also incorporated the integration of a large private dining area, in addition to the preparation kitchen which was added to the downstairs area.

On the upper floor a series of walls were also knocked down by the workforce to create a very large open plan kitchen, and restaurant which can seat up to 70 dining customers in the main eating area. The bar area also has scope for a further 10 guests with a large brewery table. Furthermore Ox and Finch offer private dining facilities accommodating up to 14 guests.

Stuart Black, lead interior designer of the new restaurant, said:

“It was excellent to be involved with the project, and the feedback has been great with fantastic reviews. The restaurant has been fully booked since it opened; sometimes the staff members have had to turn people away because they are so full!”

The restaurant flaunts a creditable culinary team combining skills and experience, which includes Gordon Ramsey, Jason Atherton-trained former Head Chef of Gallery Mess at The Saatchi Gallery and a former sous chef from Michelin-starred restaurant Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond.

The Ox and Finch menu provides seasonal cuisine served in a sharing style to support an enjoyable social experience whilst dining. The establishment ensures the best quality produce, hygiene standards and cooking techniques in addition to excellent presentation, maintained by the kitchen staff.

The menu includes braised ox cheek, roast cauliflower puree, thyme and bacon gremolata; tartar of roe deer, hazelnuts and mustard; skate wing, samphire and caper burnt butter; and Valhrona manjari chocolate cremeux, salted popcorn, peanuts and banana ice cream.

With the 10-person seated bar area, Ox and Finch also offer a generous range of rotational and seasonal craft beers, including bottles and on draught. Additionally there is an expertly-selected wine list which has been chosen delicately to accompany and compliment the food served.
