Coworth Park in Ascot is a luxurious country house hotel, situated on the borders of Windsor Great Park.

The hotel includes a stunning collection of suites and rooms, including the Mansion House Premium Suite and The Dower House suite, as well as a selection of restaurants and bars.

A highlight of the hotel is the site’s ground breaking eco-luxury spa, which is partially submerged in the landscape. Constructed over two floors, Coworth Park Spa includes eight treatment rooms, a manicure/pedicure salon, a relaxation room, a heated indoor swimming pool, a sun terrace, steam room and a gym.

The Spa’s swimming pool measures 18 meters in length, by 7.5 meters in width and 1.2 meters in depth and boasts underwater music. Meanwhile, those wanting to take it easy can pop into The Spatisserie, the Spa’s dining space which serves up light meals, wine, champagne and afternoon tea.

Spas are naturally high energy users due to their high heating requirements and lighting. Coworth Hotel Park Spa breaks from the norm as it maximises the site’s natural elements which surround the building, in turn offsetting the carbon impact of the facility.

Coworth Park Spa was constructed at Coworth Park with Galliford Try Plc as the main contractor and Purcell providing all architectural services. Fox Linton Associates was the interior designer on the project.

Since opening, Coworth Park Spa has been extremely popular with guests and recently picked up the Best Spa award at The International Hotel & Property Awards 2014. Premier Hospitality recently caught up with Jeremy Blake, a Partner at Purcell, to find out a little bit more about the project and what makes Coworth Park Spa so unique.

Jeremy said:

“The Dorchester Collection wanted to create an eco-luxury spa within the grounds of their Coworth Park hotel. The site is set within a green belt, so there were a number of planning conditions to work with. Purcell was approached because we have a proven track record of delivering sustainable eco-luxury solutions.

“The spa is the world’s first luxury spa to be built out of carbon negative lime hemp construction. It has a timber glulam monocoque structure which supports a living roof of lavender, camomile and thyme which can be used for treatments. The project incorporates a number of innovative, sustainable measures including an ultraviolet swimming pool and is 40% below its target emission rate.

“The project needed a lot of coordination as a great deal of ground works were involved and waterproof concrete was required.”

Jeremy added:

“It was an outstanding scheme to be involved with, giving Purcell the opportunity to demonstrate our environmental credentials and excellent design, whilst incorporating innovative green building techniques. The spa certainly met the Dorchester Collection’s aspirations; its eco-luxury facilities are exemplary and the building’s high quality design has been recognised with international awards.”
