A £5m commercial development project involving the creation of two units providing 46,000² ft of office, workshop and yard space has taken place in Dyce, close to Aberdeen International Airport.

The project has taken place on what was a brownfield site at Farburn Terrace. West Coats Estates are targeting further opportunities in the area at the end of a successful project.

Danish freight handling firm Blue Water Shipping, which secured a pre-let agreement for one of the units, and precise navigation and positioning solution provider Veripos, have become the first occupiers of the building. Main contractor, Robertson, has ensured the successful developments on the commercial buildings.

Director Iftikar Mian said:

“The handover was the final milestone in what has been a successful project for the company, underlining the potential in Dyce as the area continues to grow and evolve from a business perspective. We have a number of projects in the pipeline but remain open to opportunities with Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire featuring prominently on our list of potential locations for future commercial development.

“The two units at Farburn Terrace were significant for West Coast Estates and have set a benchmark for us; what we have described as a textbook development for us – taking a redundant site, identifying the opportunity, concluding the purchase, obtaining planning consent, identifying occupiers and completing construction. It is a development model at the heart of our business.”

Blue Water Shipping has a 5,393² ft workshop, 3,337² ft office and 10,107² ft yard. Veripos occupies a unit with 10,947² ft of workshop space with 4,327² ft of office accommodation and a 13,067² ft yard.

Iftikar Mian added:

“Prior to Farburn Terrace we delivered a project at Minto Drive in Altens, which demonstrates the potential both to the north and south of Aberdeen. We are confident there are further opportunities and are committed to exploring those in the months ahead.

“Our plans for the future are not restricted to industrial and office developments. We have been active in the retail sector, currently in the final stages of a project for Sainsbury’s on Guild Street in Aberdeen as well as working on similar development in Edinburgh, and are also actively pursuing residential opportunities.”
