Construct

For the past 21 years, Construct has been a leading name in the promotion of concrete for the construction industry.

Acting as an important and trustworthy voice within the industry, Construct’s members look to the trade association as the driving force behind safety, innovation and efficiency.

Membership is open to all those in the industry, with members joining from all over the UK. Members include specialist concrete frame contractors, in addition to suppliers and consultants. On average Construct members purchase around 30% of all ready-mixed concrete produced in the UK. At present Construct members deliver the vast majority of the industry’s £1 billion yearly spend.

Construct takes health and safety very seriously and the well-being of the association’s workforce is a number one priority. Construct strives for incident-free working environments and works with all members, designers and clients to achieve this.

Construct’s health and safety committee meet regularly in order to share and discuss best practice solutions when it comes to safety in the work place. In addition, Construct invites external organisations and construction stakeholders to share their views and experience.

To keep up with the latest developments within the industry, the association holds the Construct Awards, which reward and highlight members who are continuing to shine within the concrete industry.

Winners of the Construct Awards 2014 included Freyssinet (UK) Ltd for their work on the Hammersmith Flyover; David Ball Group Plc for their product Cemfree; and Lee Marshall picked up the Apprentice Award for 2014.

AJ Morrisroe and Hilti (GB) were joint winners of the Health & Safety Award, whilst Miers Construction Products Ltd and Temporary Floor Protection Ltd were both highly commended for their materials and products.

A spokesperson for Construct, said:

“Construct exists for the benefit of its members. Formed in 1993, we are acknowledged across the construction industry as a professional and proactive organisation which acts as an interface between member contractors, clients and suppliers, and between other elements of the construction industry with all its stakeholders. As such, membership is open to all those who have an interest in promoting excellence in concrete.

“We are driven by four priorities, each led by a champion within the organisation: improving safety and efficiency; co-ordinating views and acting in members’ interests; promoting innovation in the use of concrete; and identifying and addressing best practice and buildability.

“Construct’s members make up the vast majority of players of all sizes in the UK’s concrete structures industry. Indeed, 93% of total spend in the concrete structures sector is completed by our members. The membership is truly national, with members operating in all corners of the UK.

“Any membership organisation grows in strength on the credibility of its members so we are particularly proud to represent 80+ market-leading organisations and as such are unarguably the central authority within our specialist sector. Our vision is to be the voice for the whole industry, and as such we are serious about encouraging new members to join.

“Training provision and the setting out of best practice is one of the four strategic areas on which construct focuses. As the central hub of knowledge for the whole concrete structures industry, Construct is committed to leading the way in the provision of world class training in construction.

“Our commitment continually expands, with new courses being added to transfer the knowledge that is critical to the ongoing development of our industry and the individuals operating within it.

“With 12,000+ employees, our members represent a significant percentage of the workforce – an obligation which we at Construct take seriously.”

Applications for membership to Construct are reviewed and approved by Construct’s membership committee and are then ratified by the Construct Council. Annual subscriptions are due on the 1st of January each year.
