Broadgate Circle, London, Square Mile

Broadgate Circle – the newly opened development at London’s premium business campus in the heart of London’s Square Mile – is to become the city’s newest food and drink hub.

As part of the area’s extensive redevelopment an expansive circular terrace forms the centre point for 11 new restaurants and food and drink outlets.

Hakkasan Group, owners of several of the world’s most acclaimed fine-dining and lifestyle brands, have chosen the new development for a second outpost of Michelin-starred dim sum restaurant, Yauatcha City, and brand new concept, Yauatcha Patisserie.

Playing host to cuisines from across the world, Broadgate Circle will see Jose Pizarro open his first site away from Bermondsey together with the launch of new restaurant Crab Tavern, both soon-to-launch alongside recent openings from Aubaine, Franco Manca, Shoryu Ramen, Beany Green and Street Dots’ ever-changing line-up of street food trucks. Comptoir Libanais and Sandwich will also both open at Broadgate Circle this May. Additionally, ETM Group has opened a sister site to The Botanist, which is Broadgate Circle’s primary late-night venue.

Aubaine has opened its ninth London site at Broadgate Circle offering diners simple, elegant Parisian dishes from breakfast through to dinner. Comprising a restaurant, boulangerie and patisserie customers can visit for coffee and pastry, afternoon tea, cocktails or rustic and contemporary French cuisine for lunch and dinner.

Christopher Bloomfield, Aubaine’s Area Manager, commented:

“Aubaine is thrilled to have opened at Broadgate Circle and be part of the most exciting dining hub in the heart of the City. The location between Liverpool Street Station and the future Crossrail provides ultimate convenience and will allow Broadgate Circle to become a dynamic and vibrant destination for all Londoners.”

Independent Australian coffee shop Beany Green is another Broadgate staple, providing the development’s 30,000 workers with brunch, bold healthy salads, wraps and award-winning banana bread to break up the monotony of their working day.

The venue channels Bondi in the City and features street art installations which form the backdrop to a relaxed Antipodean cafe furnished with deck chairs and offering a menu of in-house made goodies available to eat in or takeaway.

Healthy and affordable Lebanese food is also on the menu at Broadgate thanks to Comptoir Libanais restaurant. Brand founder Tony Kitous commented:

“We’re really looking forward to opening in Broadgate Circle as a lot of our loyal guests work and live in the area. We’re honoured and excited to be part of the new dining destinations in the heart of the City.”

Set to open in June Crab Tavern, a new concept, will provide those in the area with an American combination of surf and turf dishes, including crab doughnuts, cheddar stuffed bacon burger and Singapore crab.

Another addition to the Broadgate hub is an 80-cover Franco Manca restaurant; widely acknowledged as serving some of the best pizza in London. The site is the brand’s 11th venue offering a range of delectable pizzas made from slow-rising sourdough and baked in a wood burning ‘Tufae’ brick oven.

Greenery and floral displays are interspersed amongst Broadgate’s ample outdoor seating offering a sun-filled haven in the midst of the city.

Celebrated Spanish chef José Pizarro will open his third restaurant on site offering all-day fresh, seasonal twists on Spanish classics. José Pizarro commented:

“In many ways this is the most important restaurant launch of my entire career. I cannot wait to cater for new audiences in a new area of London and show them the many delights of modern Spanish cooking.”

The Shoryu Ramen Restaurant Group, who specialise in authentic Kyushian cuisine, have launched their fourth restaurant in the Broadgate Circle. The restaurant continues to offer their signature Hakata tonkotsu ramen, Shoryu buns and royal warrant sake but with the addition of robata grill and sushi bar for a more luxurious dining experience.

ETM Group have also opened a sister restaurant to Sloane Square’s much-loved The Botanist. Set over two floors, the new venue boasts a bar serving a selection of seasonal cocktails alongside a range of fine wines and beers. The elegant restaurant offers a classic British and European menu as well as subterranean club, Soda Room, and serves as Broadgate Circle’s primary late night venue.

Tom Martin, founder of ETM Group:

“British Land and GIC understand what makes a great environment, we are really impressed at both the quality of the development and the calibre of brands involved. The Botanist on Sloane Square is one of our two busiest London bar / restaurants and the brand is ideally suited to the clientele of Broadgate and The City in general. We are delighted to bring this highly successful format to such a prominent and prestigious City location.”

Sandwich is also set to open at Broadgate offering the perfect venue for a quick and delicious meal to go. Street Dots also provides workers with the delicious London street foods, changing on a daily basis and giving local workers a never-ending variety of quality vendors to choose from.

Hakkasan Group has chosen Broadgate Circle for the second site of Michelin- starred Yauatcha. The renowned Chinese dim sum teahouse will open Yauatcha City over two floors, with the first standalone Yauatcha Patisserie located below the main restaurant.

Didier Souillat, Executive Vice President of Restaurants for Hakkasan Group:

“We chose Broadgate Circle for our second Yauatcha restaurant in the UK because it serves an exceptional catchment and its strong trading profile makes it an obvious choice for us. We know Broadgate will provide a sound platform to continue to grow our brand.”

An exciting programme of events has been developed to ensure a constant stream of activity within Broadgate Circle all year round.”

John Anthony Signs

John Anthony Signs specialise in the manufacture and installation of national and international sign rebranding programmes in all market sectors. The company has been in operation for over 46 years.

The recent completion of Broadgate Circle adds to the long heritage of commercial and public projects completed by the JAS team. These include projects such as The Brunswick Centre, National Portrait Gallery, Crossrail Place, Westminster Abbey, The Royal Observatory and St Pancras Station to name a few.

JAS worked closely with Arup Architects, months before the project launch, to consult, develop, sample and prototype the signage for both the slimline illuminated letters and slimline illuminated tenant totems for the 16no tenants at Broadgate Circle. Although the specification was uniform for all of the tenants, each of the restaurateurs were able to use their own typeface for the fascia letters and sometimes ornate designs to the face of each of the totems. The totems included a light wash internally across the tenant name and detailed illuminated pattern to the external face with all of the metal work finished in a bronze anodised finish, delivering a stunning result which portrayed both quality and an eye for detail.

David Fagg, Sales & Marketing Director at JAS added:

“At John Anthony Signs we pride ourselves on quality, experience, service and flexibility. We make some of the best signs in the world. We have now worked in over 50 countries across the globe so bring a wealth of experience to any signage project.”
