Gaucho, Saint Mary’s Street, Manchester

Situated on Saint Mary’s Street in Manchester, Gaucho is a prestigious restaurant serving quality steak dishes alongside a fantastic selection of drinks.

Known for its excellent service, great hospitality and exquisite food, Gaucho is a go-to restaurant for diners in the city.

Keen to keep Gaucho at the forefront of the Manchester social scene, the restaurant recently unveiled a fantastic new destination bar, which has already been met with excellent feedback. When it launched in April 2015, the opening was attended by a number of celebrities – including Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe – where it showcased a collection of ornate cocktails.

In order to find out a little bit more about the new bar, Premier Hospitality caught up with Gaucho’s Marketing Director, Matt Ford, as well as Patsy Godik of Conceptualise Design. Patsy led the design work on the project, working alongside project managers Cotton Thompson Cole, whilst Matt helped turn the idea of destination bar into a reality.

Speaking about the new bar, Matt said:

“We really like to listen to our guests in Manchester. There was a demand, from guests, for a destination bar where they could come and relax, enjoy some fantastic cocktails and not feel obliged to come in for a beautiful steak and a glass of Malbec. Of course, that will always be on offer at Gaucho, but our guests wanted something a little bit more; something which is in keeping with the culture of the city.

“There is a very fun, social vibe in Manchester and we just felt that if a destination bar was something that guests desired then it was something we needed to do.”

Patsy Godik of Conceptualise Design, said:

“In terms of the design, the bar showcases glamour, but it is a relaxed glamour which takes inspiration from the classic bar era of Buenos Aires. In its hey-day – from the 1930s to the 1960s – Buenos Aires became the best place for cocktails and we have taken on this idea in order to combine design elements from the era, along with more contemporary sensibilities.”

In order to accommodate the new destination bar, Gaucho utilised some additional space at the front of the restaurant, replacing the former reception area in the process. Highlights of the bar’s design include elegant finishes, such as white marble and black leather, along with mirrors, chandeliers and pebble lighting.

Whilst work took place on the project, Gaucho remained open at all times, with the team working hard to ensure there was little disruption to ordinary service. Their hard work paid off and not only have they provided guests with a new drinking hot-spot, but they have also ticked all the right boxes for Gaucho.

Matt said:

“Gaucho is in the hub of the city centre. We’re on a vibrant street – which has a great buzz about it –so it is important for us that Gaucho continues to stand out.”

Patsy added:

“Working on this project was hugely important for me. I’ve been involved with Gaucho’s branding for the last ten years and it is my job to ensure that the brand evolves in every design that we do.

“Gaucho Manchester has always been the most extraordinary site to work on, so creating this new bar was a fantastic opportunity to be a part of.”

In addition to the new destination bar, Gaucho Manchester boasts a stunning new, working wine wall which includes 212 Argentinian wines, all sourced exclusively for Gaucho.
