Transforming a former derelict site into one which developers said will meet local needs and help boost nearby businesses, as well as providing new jobs, construction of a new Morrisons Petrol station has been completed in Aldrin Place at the Southwood Centre, off Summit Avenue, Farnborough.

Complementing and reinforcing the Morrisons store, the new petrol station is located close to the new BMW UK headquarters, also in Summit Avenue, and provides a useful local amenity to around 2,000 plus BMW employees.

The project was carried out for Cantium Developments and Hargreaves Properties Limited by main contractor Toureen Retail. Architects were Jennings Design, Project Managers were Rapley and Structural Engineers were Stephen Wilson Partnership Ltd.

The triangular shaped brownfield site opposite Morrisons had lain vacant after a two storey office building previously located there was demolished because it had generated little interest from any potential occupants.

The developers said that the fact that a site in such a prominent location has been disused for more than a year made it important to deliver a quality development.

The project comprised the installation of two 75,000 litre and two 45,000 litre underground  storage tanks for diesel and unleaded petrol, together with a forecourt with canopy, six petrol pumps and a sales kiosk with a store and sales area.

The kiosk is a steel framed building with composite insulated aluminium sheeting roof and walls. There is also a car wash of similar construction to the kiosk, several bike stands, associated car parking, access and servicing areas.

Other elements of the project included the landscaping of the site, the erection of boundary fencing and the formation of new entrance and exit crossings into the site.
