Pitcher & Piano, Nottingham

The fifth major refurbishment in the Pitcher & Piano group has been shortlisted in this year’s Restaurant and Bar Design Awards.

The venue, which was reopened in February of 2014, was designed by Concorde Design who are thrilled to be a part of this year’s ceremony. To mark the occasion Premier Hospitality caught up with Sophie Oldfield, Senior Designer at Concorde Design to hear about the Nottingham bar and what it means to them to be recognised by the prestigious awards.

Sophie said:

“It’s great to have been shortlisted in this year’s Restaurant and Bar Design Awards and to be recognised for our hard work. Winning would be the icing on the cake but either way it’s very exciting, everyone at Concorde is really proud of the venue.”

Concorde Design has worked with Pitcher & Piano on several of their bars, the first project they visited to refurbish being their Newcastle site.

Sophie added:

“Working with Pitcher & Piano on a number of projects has allowed us to really get a feel for what the brand wants. We’ve built an excellent working relationship and following the Nottingham bar we have since worked on a number of their other sites.”

Pitcher & Piano pride themselves in each site looking individual whilst staying true to the Pitcher & Piano ethos, with most of their bars situated inside iconic buildings throughout the UK. The Nottingham branch is situated in a grade ΙΙ listed church, with the original features still intact. Concorde worked hard during the design process to ensure that the newly installed modern features were well balanced with the more traditional existing ones.

The beautifully restored church setting provides a stunning backdrop to both dining and drinking. Complete with stained glass windows, exposed stone archways and the beautiful new interior, the bar is a stylish space for socialising with friends.

“The brief for this Pitcher & Piano in Nottingham, was to give the site an industrial update whilst still being sympathetic to the building and its original features. We didn’t want to stray too far away from the historic character of the building but we still wanted to give it a modern look, so we had to maintain a balance of the two periods.”

The premises have been painted using Farrow & Ball paints in the shades Hague Blue, Green Smoke and Elephants Breath, with feature walls adorned in an eclectic mix of Zoffany Rococo Mirror Pewter and Barnaby Gates chairs wallpapers to complement the new décor.

The bar features two reclaimed grand pianos in a light blue distressed finish. The pianos are predominantly used as poseur height tables for drinking at, but are also in full working order for special music nights.

Tons of Tiles collaborated with Concorde Design in order to produce the ideal interior for the bar. Premier Hospitality caught up with Katie Reid of Tons of Tiles, she told us:
