Believed to be the biggest casino in Britain, Genting International Casino, attracting both novice gamblers and ‘high rollers’ from all over the world, has just opened at the new multi-million pound Resorts World Birmingham leisure and retail complex in Pendigo Way, Birmingham.
Located next to Pendigo Lake and the Genting Arena, the new complex also houses a hotel, cinema, shops such as Nike Factory Store and Gap Outlet and restaurant chains including TGI Fridays and Pizza Express.
Resorts World Birmingham is the fifth attraction opened by Malaysian company Genting and follows Singapore, Philippines, New York City and Malaysia.
Designers and project architects for the casino scheme were Design at Source, with Phelan Construction as main contractors for the fit-out.
“This is a massive development and the project went very well,” said Anthony Bishop of Design at Source.
The main gaming floor of the venue was created within a large open footprint on the third floor of the complex, and incorporates gaming tables, slot machines, a snack bar and a special raised area which is of particularly opulent design and dedicated to high stakes gaming. Electronic gaming is also featured with live Roulette, Baccarat and 3 Card Poker on HD screens. In addition, there is a Sports Bar overlooking the gaming floor and incorporating large TV screens and seating booths, plus an external terrace where customers can smoke and gamble.
For multi-million pound ‘high rollers’ flying in from destinations worldwide, there is a ‘Salon Privé’ on the fifth floor of the complex, with views over Birmingham and linked to the venue’s Sky Bar.
“The interior design of the main floor had to be fairly open plan due to the layout of the gaming tables and there was particular emphasis on the ceiling which is prominently visible because the gaming floor is so vast. With this in mind, we created a huge boat-shaped cut out in the ceiling, with the rest of the ceiling featuring the ‘wake’ of the boat as if it was cutting though the water. All this is illuminated by changing colours,” said Anthony Bishop.
Warm shades including reds and oranges predominate in the overall colour scheme, with the carpeting being in red, complemented by colour-changing lighting in red, orange, yellow and magenta – all geared to creating a warm, relaxing atmosphere.
Other works on the scheme included the installation of all building services, including heating and lighting.
According to Genting International Casino, the venue “Offers a new world of international gaming to the UK. Where style and sophistication meet superior gaming knowledge and exceptional customer service.
“The truly impressive gaming floor is home to 31 tables, offering a variety of casino games including American Roulette, Blackjack, Baccarat and a range of table poker games such as 3 Card Poker. There is also an external high-tech gaming area offering Blackjack and Roulette and electronic gaming; the first of its kind outside London.”
