With over 500 stores in 27 various countries, household store Tiger has opened a new site at Borehamwood Shopping Park, located in Hertfordshire. With miscellaneous items on offer, Tiger products include an extensive array of homeware items, snacks and spices.

Prior to becoming part of the Tiger chain, the ground floor retail unit was previously a Clintons store, with HLP UK responsible for the design and project management of the refurbishment.

Rob Walsh, Project Manager at HLP UK, spoke to Premier Retail to divulge the latest on the developments at Tiger. Rob said:
“Tiger comprises a single storey unit in an existing shopping park at Borehamwood – we acquired the shell unit ready for standard fit out, in order for the client to move in. The project began on site in September this year and was handed over to the client on 19th October. The retail store opened its doors on 22nd October.
“The feedback has been very positive – and as it is already a busy retail park, the store seems to be experiencing a lot of footfall with a lot of commuters heading into London around the area.
“As a mixed bag, Tiger sells various homeware products, storage items, snacks and sweets, and even Danish food items! This is because Tiger are in partnership with a Danish company, and they regionalise the UK areas that the stores are located in. We just work with the South East region.”

Externally, Tiger features two large illuminated fascia signs above the entrances, creating a sense of presence within the retail park and a talking point for customers. One of the glass entrances displays embossed frosted glass on either side of the automatic doors, with ‘Tiger’ printed onto both sides.

“The shop front displays a fascia sign which appears almost as if the Tiger store is a concession of NEXT – however Tiger is an independent store. That is just how the retail park is laid out – we wanted to clear any confusion, and ensure that people know that it is a separate unit,” Rob told us.

The design of the store maintains almost a clinical feel, with a neutral palette and minimal but contemporary furnishings. The idea behind there being no emphasis on the building was to draw attention to the merchandise – the main attraction in the store – which is arranged into various colours and styles.

Rob commented:
“Generally we provided the client with a white box specification, which includes engineered timber flooring, white walls and a solid ceiling. Interestingly, the fixture company responsible for fixtures and fittings is based in Latvia so those were sourced from over there. Made in-store, these fixtures include timber built tables and merchandising tops.
“Tiger is an up and coming retailer that has been in the UK for a few years and is expanding quite rapidly. It is great to be working with a smaller retailer with ambitions to expand globally – and one that is doing so well in the process!”
