Georg Jensen in Mayfair

For more than 100 years Georg Jensen has represented quality and craftsmanship, through a stunning collection of products that truly capture the imagination. Products range from jewellery and watches to menswear and homeware and each product showcases a timeless design that is beautiful and elegant.

The Georg Jensen range is available throughout a large number of stores across the UK, with products available in some of the biggest names on the high street, including Harrods and Selfridges. In addition to the UK, Georg Jensen products are available around the world from Australia to the United States.

To enhance the current offering, Georg Jensen has recently opened a flagship store in London, situated in the heart of Mayfair. Located at 89 Mount Street, the new Georg Jensen store is a stunning retail experience, covering a space of 175sq m, which is split over two levels.

Internally the building is divided up into small departments, with a strong product focus in each, including a large jewellery display on the ground level, alongside an Art Deco-inspired display of menswear. Downstairs the exquisite design continues as more products are carefully placed throughout, including Georg Jensen heritage pieces.

Studio David Thulstrup was the interior design consultancy responsible for the design of the new store, working alongside main contractor Desert Oak. Studio David Thulstrup provides services to the retail and residential sector and is known in the industry for its creativity and innovation.

Studio David Thulstrup has a longstanding working relationship with the Georg Jensen brand which has seen the two companies work together very closely, in order to develop the current retail concept. With each project, Studio David Thulstrup has tailored the concept to meet the needs of each store, whilst retaining the core essence of the design.

Speaking to Premier Retail, David Thulstrup, Founder and Creative Director of Studio David Thulstrup, said:
“We have worked with Georg Jensen for more than a year, developing the retail concept which has now been implemented in Oslo, Taipei and Munich, as well as four locations in London, including this new store in Mayfair.
“We have been working with Georg Jensen from the start, putting together a creative new concept which reflects the prestigious nature of the brand.”
Although Studio David Thulstrup is an experienced design practice capable of tackling projects that vary in size and value, each project brings its own challenges and the new Georg Jensen store was no different.

David said:
“Working across two floors created a couple of challenges, as we wanted to ensure that customers would want to go from one level to the next to see what was on offer. We incorporated wooden slates throughout the staircase and accentuated the design in this area to encourage movement between the floors.
“We also had to retain an existing ventilation system, so there was a challenge in terms of how much we could build out from the walls. These are all things that must be considered.”

Due to the Listed status of the building, all work was conducted sensitively, with the original façade retained.
The project proved very rewarding for all involved and continued the fantastic collaboration between Georg Jensen and Studio David Thulstrup.
David said:
“For us it is hugely important that our clients are happy and want to continue working with us. It is also important for us to show that we are capable of implementing solutions that work for our clients’ products and ultimately help to increase their sales.”
