Hilton London Hyde Park – A room with a view

Hilton

A Grade II Listed Edwardian Townhouse located directly across from Britain’s most famous park, presents a beautiful and comfortable stay for all guests. The Hilton London Hyde Park offers a welcoming experience in the heart of the city, in a prime location.

Staying at the hotel means that all of London’s exciting attractions are right on your doorstep, including shopping at Oxford Street, the lively Soho neighbourhood and Buckingham Palace.

Just one mile from Oxford Street and Harrods, Hilton London Hyde Park is within close proximity of the Bayswater and Queensway tube stations, providing easy access for commuters. The hotel provides a meeting/function room for up to 30 people and complimentary Wi-Fi access is available in all public areas.

Having recently undergone a refurbishment to the bedrooms and public areas, the boutique hotel now features newly-designed spaces and bespoke furniture for a modern, updated look and feel.

Interior design practice Cunningham Mclean was responsible for carrying out the design elements of the overhaul, having worked on many other projects with the Hilton prior to this one.

Established in 1987, Cunningham Mclean works within the UK and European design industry providing professional interior design and project management to many sectors including corporate, hospitality and leisure markets.

Premier Hospitality caught up with Alan McClure, Co-Director of Cunningham Mclean, to discuss the hotel’s overhaul. Alan said:

“We refurbished the bedrooms and public areas – work on the bedrooms commenced in 2014 and took place over two phases. It was completed in April this year. We started on the public areas earlier this year and were complete at the end of July.

Hilton

“The bedrooms were designed by the Hilton’s in house team, incorporating their signature style. They are classic, timeless and refined, yet still comfortable; with a light, warm design and a 4* London hotel feel typical of the Hilton.”

A traditional building, no two rooms are the same at Hilton London Hyde Park which means that guests can enjoy a charming and luxurious stay which can be different to their future visits. As a reminder of the unique location at Hyde Park, a select few pieces of artwork link with the surrounding area.

Alan commented:

“We designed the public areas which included the lobby reception area, and integrated finishes including brass metal detailing, timbers, light stone on the floor and luxurious fabrics on the upholstery. We added lots of mirror and reflective materials to bounce the light around and give the illusion of there being more space.

“The restaurant is not run by the hotel – it is a separate operation.”

Interestingly, the majority of the furniture was custom-made for the project, in addition to a stunning chandelier which appears as an eye-catching feature as guests enter the building.

Deep green hues are displayed to reflect the view from the hotel into Hyde Park itself, tying the outside location in. According to Alan, this was important to Hilton.

Alan added:

“The biggest challenge was the size of the area (which isn’t huge) – we had to try and keep the area sophisticated and refined but at the same time cram in all of the operational requirements of a 4* Hilton hotel, whilst making the hotel look unique.

“We have worked with Hilton since 2001 on various projects and it’s important because working for a blue chip company such as Hilton is always nice to have on the CV! It’s continuing the relationship we have and it is great to work on a London city centre hotel that is a little different to the norm.”
