Opulence at the Opera Grill

Opera Grill

Offering the ‘wow’ factor, Opera Grill at Chester is a glamorous new venue with an exciting food menu and extensive wine and Champagne list ranging from the high-end to the more affordable.

Launched in early August, Opera Grill is a vibrant new dining destination under restaurant group Individual Restaurant Company, combining an effortless contemporary design with conviviality and a show-stopping sense of theatre. Renowned design and architectural practice Carroll Design are responsible for the carefully combined interiors.

Oliver Ludlam, Senior Designer at Carroll Design, told Premier Hospitality:

“We started looking at the developments in September 2015 during the design phase and the works began onsite in March 2016.

“There are roughly 250 covers across two levels – a glass front terrace attached to the ground floor dining space and also a first floor with a rear terrace to the back.”

Customers walk through refurbished shopfront doors and come across a very large wine display which takes up the entire shopfront. Taking a left turn customers will be greeted by a receptionist; subsequently they are led into the main restaurant with a big central bar and chairs, tables, attractive banquette seating and comfy booths throughout the whole ground floor. The impressive display kitchen is located at the far end featuring two pizza ovens and a very large bespoke grill.

The kitchen area is open to viewing by customers, in a display that is similar to a deli experience. Diners can see their food right in front of them from before being prepared and cooked – and even choose their own steak from the display – to afterwards when it is placed in front of them at the table.

To the left of the space there is a set of stairs, leading up to the customer toilets and turning left from there is the beautiful terrace, perfect for enjoying a spot of lunch with a view or a cold beverage in the sun.

Instead of turning left to the terrace, if customers turn right they are greeted by a bar and the performance stage, in place for live acts and bands to perform. An ideal location for a celebratory meal or get-together, live acts at the Opera House mean that diners can enjoy an added sense of entertainment alongside delicious food, a striking kitchen in operation and great hospitality.

Oliver commented:

“The restaurant maintains a luxurious design being hi-spec throughout. We incorporated lots of detail and materials such as mild steel, brass, Arabescato marble, lots of leather and timber.

“From our perspective the planning permission was a challenging part of the project. The biggest challenge was probably trying to create a feeling of something different throughout the restaurant – as it is such a big area – whilst also trying to maintain some idea of the building itself. We wanted to keep the character of the building as much as possible; we have kept many of the wall finishes as you would find them on a building site, and just made them more glamorous.

“The building has preserved its past rather than having it dismissed or covered up, which is really nice I think.

He added:

“We have worked with the Individual Restaurant Company for a number of years now so it is nice to be involved in a larger project with them.”
