Galvin at the Centurion club

Centurion Club

The Michelin-starred Galvin brothers are set to open their new restaurant in the Centurion Club located to the west of St Albans in Hertfordshire.

The Galvin Brothers started out in Baker Street with their first restaurant, Bistrot de Luxe, and have opened up some of the UK’s finest French restaurants over the last 10 years. After gaining a Michelin-star at Galvin at Windows and Galvin La Chapelle, the brothers had nowhere to go but up. With 10 restaurants already in their portfolio, they have recently added another in the form of Galvin at Centurion Club.

The restaurant, situated in the Centurion club’s clubhouse, will have an informal environment with simple, seasonal dishes on the menu. These dishes will include lasagne of Dorset crab with beurre Nantais, roast rump of Herdwick lamb, and Provence apricot and Valrhona chocolate soufflé.

Construction of the club building began in summer 2015 and is currently open to members. The restaurant itself opened to guests on 6th September.

Dining is available in the main restaurant, the bar and the terrace, which has fire pits that allow for seating outside in the colder months. In addition to these areas, there are three adjoining private dining areas which are able to seat 12-14 guests. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner seven days a week, and offers two and three course affordable set-menus.

Peter Young Design Ltd, the designer of the whole interior of the clubhouse, created a relaxed and comfortable space where members and their guests can enjoy the company of their fellow golfers and business colleagues.

The Galvin at Centurion Club has plenty of windows with views across the 18th and beyond. The design of the interior is based heavily on natural materials with a soft colour palette. “We wanted something that would sit comfortably within the golf course itself both inside and outside,” commented Peter Young, Director of Peter Young Designs.

The design of the restaurant is a contemporary and welcoming feel with local artwork featuring natural landscapes. A marble bar top and a large stone fireplace with an oak long mantle are the main features which help to create the relaxed feel of the interior. Most of the colour of the space comes from the furniture such as the leather chairs and fittings such as the pinch pleated duel toned curtains. The colours of the fabrics are used to blend in with the interior to keep the natural design scheme that runs throughout the whole of the clubhouse. The interior design drew heavily from the natural environment that surrounds the clubhouse in order to create a space that focused on the comfort of its members. The space is flexible in order to accommodate events such as weddings, meaning the furniture can easily be moved to fit what is needed of the space.

The project faced minimal challenges. “It went seamlessly,” commented Peter. And so far the members of the club have been nothing but positive about the restaurant. “They’ve had a several events already and all have had such enthusiastic feedback it’s really nice to hear.”
