This Month in Rail Construction News 2.5

Welcome to the latest edition of Rail Construction News – the premier construction tool for the rail industry.

In this month’s edition of Rail Construction News, we take a look at the recent Metro All Change project; we preview Sifer 2017; and we highlight the Hull Paragon scheme.

Two major projects which form part of Newcastle’s £350m Metro All Change modernisation programme have transformed the city’s s rail transport system. The projects include the re-railing of the Metro tunnels beneath the city centre and the modernisation of Central Metro station. Cllr Nick Forbes, Lead Member for Transport on the North East Combined Authority, said: “The Metro tunnels are a vital transport link for our region so this modernisation work is extremely welcome. Strong rail links are essential to the strength of the regional economy.”

Meanwhile, Leading rail managers, engineers and buyers will soon be gathering in Lille for SIFER 2017, France’s showcase event for railway technology, products and services. The show takes place at the Lille Grand Palais exhibition centre from 21 to 23 March and will be the tenth in a successful series of events that since 1999 have consistently grown in size and stature. Organised by Mack Brooks Exhibitions, the company responsible for the UK’s Railtex and Infrarail events, SIFER is France’s only regular railway industry trade show. It therefore serves as a valuable shop window for the country’s internationally renowned expertise in this sector, and provides domestic and foreign suppliers with opportunities to support their pursuit of business in one of Europe’s major rail markets.

And finally, work to transform Hull Paragon has begun. The project includes the construction of new toilets and a new waiting room for customers. TransPennine Express are investing more than £1.4million in new, modern facilities which will enhance the experience for customers while complimenting the existing Grade II listed building.

With all this and much more inside, please join us as we explore the projects which continue to shape our nation’s railways.
