The Michelmores Property Awards – The 2017 shortlist is revealed

The shortlist has been announced for the 2017 Michelmores Property Awards, which celebrate outstanding property and construction projects in Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Bristol and Cornwall, across ten categories.

Amongst the shortlisted projects was the Met Office’s High Performance Computer Centre at Exeter Science Park, under the categories of Public Project of the Year and Building of the Year. The £97m project houses the Met Office’s super computer, capable of performing 14,000 trillion calculations per second. The building itself, classed a BREEAM excellent for sustainability, will also be used as collaboration space to enable partnership s between science, business and academia.

One Research Way, phase five of the Plymouth Science Park campus has been shortlisted for Commercial Project of the Year, as well as Building of the Year. The site offers eleven business units, incorporating a flexible, innovative design that can accommodate businesses of up to 80 people on each of its three floors.

COACH, located at French Weir Avenue in Taunton is an outdoor activity centre offering a diverse range of adventure activities, outdoor education and personal development programmes for community users of all ages. The project was shortlisted under Leisure & Hospitality Project of the Year.

Meanwhile, the Trecerus Farm housing development in Padstow has been shortlisted in the category of Residential Project of the Year 41 Units and Over. The development comprises 45 affordable and 22 open market houses, reflecting the traditional Padstow ‘cottage’ style.

A panel of ten judges with expertise across the property and construction sector and in-depth knowledge of the region, came together for the judging day on 24 March to shortlist an impressive list of submissions.

This year’s Awards saw the introduction of five new award categories – Commercial Project of the Year, Public Project of the Year, Education Project of the Year, Leisure & Hospitality Project of the Year, and The John Laurence Special Contribution Award.

2017 also opened the Awards up to Bristol-based submissions for the first time, with four Bristol projects reaching the shortlist.

Competition across all categories was high again this year, and the quality of the entries was remarkable. Now in their fifteenth year, the annual awards showcase and celebrate the best of the South West’s property and construction industry. The winners will be announced at an Awards Dinner on Thursday 15 June at the University of Exeter, presented by comedian and actor Marcus Brigstocke.
