In this month’s edition, we take a look at Lido Ponty in South Wales; we take a trip to Margate to check out Dreamland; and we discuss the redevelopment of DC Thomson HQ.
Lido Ponty, a Grade II listed lido in Pontypridd, South Wales, has been restored to its former glory and updated for 21st century visitors. Located in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, the historic family attraction is the only one of its kind in Wales and is Wales’ premier outdoor pool attraction and adventure Play Park. Lido Ponty was originally built in 1927 in a style that was typical of its time, bringing a strong Mediterranean mood to the South Wales Valleys. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the original opening of the lido at Ynysanghard War Memorial Park on 30 July 1927.
Meanwhile, situated a stone’s throw from Margate seafront, Dreamland Margate is one of the UK’s best-loved amusement parks. Described as the heartbeat of Margate, this unique vintage-style amusement park boasts historic thrill rides, fairground games and a plethora of food vendors, all set within a space capable of hosting major events and visiting attractions. Dreamland recently reopened following a significant revamp, with a new vision to create a true destination and events space. And finally, Hardies Property & Construction Consultants has completed its involvement in the extensive redevelopment and refurbishment of DC Thomson’s Dundee headquarters. The Meadowside building has been transformed into a state-of-the-art, bright and flexible office environment. The end result is the delivery of a first class, technologically advanced and contemporary building from which DC Thomson will be able to operate for generations to come.
