Success on Chester Road

A housing project in Cheshire has achieved great success, receiving recognition at the recent LABC Awards.

The development, which was ‘highly commended’ within the ‘Best Small New Housing Development’ category at the LABC Awards, is situated on Chester Road, Poynton and comprises two, newly constructed semi-detached houses. The properties sit directly adjacent to a collection of Victorian villas and present a mix of traditional-looking exteriors, with modern interiors.

Local contractor, Oaklyn Construction Ltd was the developer/principle contractor on the project, taking the scheme from start to finish. Based in Macclesfield, Oaklyn Construction Ltd worked on the project for 18 months, overcoming a few planning obstacles to bring the project to fruition.

Speaking to Premier Construction about the project and its challenges, Edmund Carley of Oaklyn Construction Ltd, said:

“We purchased the development at auction and originally it was a large house, with a large garden. We applied for planning permission, which the neighbours weren’t too happy about, then took the project through two appeals in order to get to the construction stage.

“It was a challenge, but I’m happy to say that the project went ahead and the result speaks for itself. We’ve been recognised by the LABC Awards – which is fantastic – and it was an outcome that nobody expected, but a happy one nonetheless.”

The houses on Chester Road were constructed from traditional materials, incorporating brick and slate and were designed to remain in keeping with the style of nearby properties. The houses boast oak engineered flooring, white porcelain tiles, bi-fold doors and offer comfort and style in equal measure.

Each house incorporates stunning living spaces, including bedrooms, dining room and a family room. The kitchen is the main feature of each property and boasts a range of high quality fixtures and fittings, including a hot tap, fridge-freezer, dish washer, slide and glide oven and wine cupboard.

To complete the project, each house includes a good sized garden and parking space for two.

Commenting on the commendation at the LABC Awards, Edmund said:

“We didn’t put ourselves forward for these awards, it was the Local Authority, so it was unexpected – but great. We created two properties, which have both sold, the neighbours are now very happy and they are lovely houses with a modern look.”
