This Month in Premier Construction 24.7

Welcome to the latest edition of Premier Construction magazine.

In this month’s edition, we unveil Canterbury Cathedral; we reach the completion of the Queensferry Crossing project; and we cast our eye over a collection of schemes that have made the finals for the SBID Awards.

The restoration of Canterbury Cathedral is part of ‘The Canterbury Journey’ project – a five year development that will conserve and safeguard Canterbury Cathedral’s heritage for future generations and enrich the experience of those who visit it. During the course of the project, the western end of the Cathedral is being restored and enhanced with repairs to the West Towers, Nave roof and Christ Church Gate, as well as landscaping work to significantly improve access and bring visual coherence to the South Precincts.

Meanwhile, the Queensferry Crossing has officially opened to traffic. The globally unique bridge, regarded as the centrepiece of a major upgrade to the important cross-Fourth transport corridor in the east of Scotland, opened on Wednesday 30th August 2017. The project represents a total Scottish investment of more than £1.35 billion and is the culmination of a ten year process. Designed to co-exist with the Forth Road Bridge as the main crossing point for cross-Forth traffic, The Queensferry Crossing has been constructed alongside the existing Forth Road bridge and is designed to carry the M90 motorway across the Firth of Forth, between Lothian and Fife.

And finally, a project that transformed a Victorian building at London’s King’s Cross Station into a contemporary workspace for 300 people has now received industry recognition with a SBID International Design Award nomination in the Office Design category. Occupied by finance provider NewDay, the office accommodation showcases a number of innovative features that blend the stunning original architecture with modern workspace requirements. Led by design and build company Oktra, the new space is a mix of fixed workstations, open-plan desking and meeting pods over an expansive café area.

With all this and more, join us as we explore the impressive construction projects that continue to shape our landscape.
