This Month in Premier Retail 2-2

Welcome to Premier Retail – the premier construction tool for the retail industry.

In this month’s issue we take a look at Volkswagen’s new Birmingham showroom; we check back in with Dr. Martens Camden as the store makes the shortlist for the Retail Week Interiors Awards 2017; and we look ahead to the Retail Design Expo 2018.

Volkswagen’s inaugural new store concept, designed by Dalziel & Pow, uses “the joy of Volkswagen life” as its inspiration. Located in The Bullring, Birmingham this pioneering vision for automotive retailing connects consumers with the pleasures of car ownership. The Bullring concept motivates a wide audience not only to engage with stories in-store and admire the brand’s innovations, but also to jump behind the wheel, get more out of their free time and live adventurously with Volkswagen.

Meanwhile, Dr. Martens’ flagship store in Camden, London has been shortlisted for three awards at this year’s Retail Week Interiors Awards 2017. The stunning store – which opened to customers in April – was designed by Studio OL3 Architectural Design, working alongside Closed on Sundays and Gariff Construction. The store is currently in the running for awards in the following categories: ‘Best Destination Store’ (Studio OL3 Architectural Design, Closed Sundays and Gariff Construction); ‘Design Excellence’ (Studio OL3 Architectural Design and Closed Sundays); and ‘Best Use of Design with Technology In-store’ (Inurface Media).

And finally, the Retail Design Expo, Europe’s leading annual event for innovation and inspiration in retail design, marketing, visual merchandising, architecture and shopfitting, has announced the Steering Panel for its 2018 event. New members this year include both national and international players including Duracell, Bata, GfK, House of Fraser, M&S, Debenhams, Wickes, Mothercare, KFC and Costa Coffee. The panel advises on all aspects of Retail Design Expo, from which companies should be speaking and exhibiting to what special features should be included. There are ten new additions from international retailers and brands joining as the event grows.

With all this and much more inside, please join us as we explore the projects which continue to shape the retail sector.
