TransPennine Express And Siemens Celebrate Success At Golden Spanner Awards 2017

TransPennine Express (TPE) and manufacturer Siemens are celebrating success after receiving a Golden Spanner Award for the Class 185 fleet of trains.

 The annual award ceremony took place in on Friday 24 November, and celebrates excellence in train maintenance. For the second year running, and for the fourth time in total, TPE’s fleet of Class 185 trains was awarded the Golden Spanner Award for the most reliable modern diesel multiple unit in Great Britain.

The fleet, owned by Eversholt Rail and maintained by Siemens, have spent their entire working life with the TransPennine Express franchise, coming into service in 2006. Currently the fleet are going through a £32 million upgrade, which means a completed refurbished interior including e-leather seats in first class, bigger tables, LED lighting and the installation ‘Exstream’, of our free, fast Wi-Fi and on-board entertainment system. The upgrade programme will be completed by July 2018.

Stacy Thundercliffe, Fleet Technical Manager, commented: “Two consecutive golden spanners for the Class 185 fleet is testament to the investment and hard work given to this fleet. We are very proud that by working with our maintenance partners, Siemens, we have delivered this great result which gives our customers best in class train reliability and contributes to more and more great journeys.”

Simon Wildgoose, Siemens Fleet Delivery Manager for the TPE Class 185, said: “Winning the award for two consecutive years, four in all, is a proud moment for us all involved in this project, and demonstrates the high level of consistency needed to provide a reliable service to TPE and their customers.”
