Trevor Square Townhouse showcases exceptional design

The breath taking refurbishment of an exquisite English period town house in Trevor Square – an exclusive garden square in the heart of Knightsbridge – has earned designers JHR Interior Architecture & Design prestigious recognition as finalists in the SBID Design Awards 2017.

Shortlisted in the ‘Residential House Under £1M’ category, the project transformed the five storey 3,068 sq ft six-bedroom luxury property into an elegant yet relaxed holiday home for the client’s family, including spacious new bedroom accommodation.

Main contractors for the project was Korendon Construction; architects was BB Partnership.

Badrieh Johari of JHR Interior Architecture & Design said: “I think that the SBID Design Awards reward hard work and celebrate design talent – as well as providing a platform for designers to get together and contribute our very best, and to share our creativity within the design industry.”

A key part of the client’s brief was the requirement for comfortable spaces where the family could enjoy time together. This was provided, along with new mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, fixtures and fittings, plus full turnkey furnishing and styling ready for the client’s return in the summer.

Whilst the home was required to be more relaxed and contemporary in style, the client also appreciated the need for the existing English heritage elements of the house to be retained.

An important aspect of the project was how JHR successfully managed to retain the listed architectural features of the building, whilst perfectly blending these with contemporary style furniture and built-in joinery.

Badrieh said: “When the clients first approached us to carry out full interior design services, we were confident that we would be able to fulfil their needs and deliver within the required nine-month time frame, as we have had extensive experience in carrying out previous private residential projects on the same scale in the Knightsbridge area.

“Another key requirement was the need to provide plenty of storage space for seasonal clothing, so that the clients do not need to travel with large suitcases every time.

“It was also important to create new bedroom accommodation for four full-time on-site staff to care for the family’s three children. This was accomplished by converting one of the property’s formal living spaces on the first floor.”

The formal areas where the family spends their quality time together are on the ground floor, whilst the private area incorporating all the bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are on the upper floors.

Showcasing craftsmanship, objet d’art and family souvenirs, the design of the formal style living room blends a combination of soft textures including satin curtains, a centre rug and velvet cushions, with strong architectural features including cornicing, timber flooring and bespoke fitted dark timber joinery with antique style brass inlays.

The open shelving units on either side of the feature fireplace provide space for the family to display photographs and souvenirs from their worldwide travels, including artwork and sculptures.

Opposite the living room, the kitchen with feature breakfast bar connects with the rear garden where the family can enjoy alfresco dining.

Central stairs with wool/silk carpet runner lead from the front entrance to the first floor which incorporates the master bedroom suite and a bedroom for the family’s daughter, which is designed with a soft palette of shades.

The master bedroom suite and ‘his & hers’ dressing rooms occupy the whole of the second floor.

The master suite embodies an elegant and feminine look, highlighted by an accent colour of burnt cayenne (as requested by the client), which blends beautifully with the suite’s dark chocolate timber and antique brass metalwork.

Badrieh said: “The soft furnishings in this area are relatively versatile, echoing client’s taste and character. Design features include a book matching marble walled walk-in shower and a free-standing bath tub. Located on the third floor is a bedroom for the boys, featuring an olive green and dove grey palette, adding a masculine accent to the room.”
