This Month in Premier Construction 25.2

Welcome to the latest edition of Premier Construction magazine.

In this month’s edition, we take a look at Maersk Tower; we marvel at The Whale Bar; and we pop in to 1761 and Lily’s Bar.

A new landmark in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Maersk Tower is a state-of-the-art research building whose innovative architecture creates the optimum framework for world-class health research. Linking the University of Copenhagen with the city and the surrounding neighbourhood, the tower is an extension of Panum, the university’s Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, and contains both research and teaching facilities, as well as a conference centre with auditoriums and meeting rooms, all fitted with the latest technology. With its easily readable and dynamically curved shape, the 15 storey research tower, designed by C.F. Møller Architects, stands as a sculptural and identity-creating linchpin for the university’s Faculty of Health Sciences, while at the same time forming a visible and open link between the city and the North Campus.

Meanwhile, located on the idyllic St Regis Maldives Vommuli Island Resort, The Whale Bar has been the subject of envious glances since opening in 2016. Modelled on the distinctive shape of the majestic whale shark, The Whale Bar was recently recognised as the overall winner of the SBID International Design Awards 2017. Designed by Singapore-based WOW Architects | Warner Wong Design, work designing The Whale Bar began in 2011 and brings a new dimension to the luxury resort overlooking the Indian Ocean.

And finally, the former Avalanche unit on Booth Street Manchester, which has been empty for more than a year, is now home to 1761 and Lily’s Bar. 1761 and Lily’s Bar is owned by Glossop based operator Phil Healey, who is working alongside General Manager Emma Greathead, Head Chef Oliver Walker and Bar Manager Jon Kloman to create a new hot spot for Manchester.

With all this and more, join us as we explore the impressive construction projects that continue to shape our landscape.
