Bayswater Apartments

A prime London location that previously operated as a hostel charging customers £10 per night has been transformed into a luxury apartment block. Bayswater Apartments is a multi-million pound scheme from property development and investment company MHA London.

As a hostel the development was home to over 300-beds and underwhelming accompanying facilities. The revamped Bayswater Apartments is a collection of 10 luxury flats across two Grade II Listed buildings. Working with the complexities that accompany a listed building, a number of original features and much more of the building fabric has been restored to create homes that sympathetically blend the old and the new.

MHA London originally acquired three buildings on Inverness Terrace in June 2015 and applied for planning permission to create five apartments in each building for a total of fifteen. Before work began, one of the buildings was sold off to leave the identical 2 and 4 Inverness Terrace ready for development. Speaking to Premier Hospitality about the project Amelia Bardot and Elle Lovera from MHA London said:

“It was a great project for us to build. We have previous experience with listed buildings and we achieved planning for an arrangement of five well-proportioned apartments in each building. The building needed a lot of work and it hadn’t had any refurbishment works carried out for a number of years. The façade was in a poor state and internally the building was awkwardly subdivided hiding many of the original listed features. It was clear that the building would need extensive refurbishment work and attention to detail.

“We were able to blend old with new and the final result is 10 stunning, modern apartments with new homes warranties behind a historic façade, our team revived the period details of the Regency-era buildings and then integrated state-of-the-art technology and sophisticated interiors.

“It was a complex refurbishment and we worked closely with Westminster City Council and their planning and heritage departments and carefully instructed an experienced design and management team and skilled contractors throughout the project. The project demonstrates the diverse nature of the MHA Portfolio and the projects that we develop. We have a varied range of past, current and pipeline developments that includes new build developments and a range of refurbishment and conversion projects.”

A short walk from Hyde Park and excellent transport links, Inverness Terrace is a great central London location that only adds to the scheme.

Bayswater Apartments has generated a great deal of interest since opening, returning to a sense of grandeur that is very much in keeping with the area. The Bayswater buildings have come a long way from their time as a hostel that provided some of cheapest overnight accommodation in the capital. The stunning transformation into luxury apartments is a testament to what can be achieved through careful restoration and a commitment to providing a high quality experience.
