R G Carter welcomed students from City College Norwich to Goldsmith Street –  one of the UK’s largest Passivhaus housing developments in Norwich – to give them a unique opportunity to see sustainable building practices first-hand.

The students met with Jack Richards, Assistant Project Manager at R G Carter, who gave an overview of the project and discussed the modern techniques used in its construction, before giving a behind the scenes tour to see the theory put into practice.

Alistair Tasker, who is studying Level 3 Construction and Built Environment was delighted to have the experience of seeing a different perspective of a building site, saying: “It was great to be on-site and to see how everything that we’ve been learning can be applied in practice. The visit has helped me to gain a better understanding of the modern techniques being used and will help me develop my career as a quantity surveyor.”

Geoff Hales, Senior Contracts Manager at R G Carter, believes visits like this give students a real insight into working in the industry, saying: “We are proud to provide students with the opportunity to visit this exciting development which has already received national attention. This housing is some of the most sustainable and affordable on the market thanks to its design quality and highly advanced techniques.

As a result, students will benefit from this unique and forward-thinking project, seeing how advanced technologies are changing the construction industry”

Working with Norwich City Council, this social housing development, designed by architects Mikhail Riches, will consist of 105 properties and will be completed in summer 2018.

Passivhaus is a sustainable housing initiative, resulting in ultra-low energy buildings that need very little fuel for heating or cooling.

R G Carter, one of the UK’s leading Passivhaus housebuilders, is also building 112 passivhaus homes at Rayne Park in Three Score, Bowthorpe.
