  • Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre set to open in autumn 2018 in the former Fountain Studios
  • New theatre will form part of the £3billion regeneration of Wembley Park
  • Programme of 200 shows a year will attract up to 360,000 visitors per year

Quintain has signed a new theatre venture to its £3billion Wembley Park transformation, one of Europe’s largest urban regeneration projects. Taking over the former Fountain Studios, best known as the venue for shows including The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and Pop Idol, Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre will open in autumn 2018, and will be run by award-winning Troubadour Theatres.

The theatre will seat 1,000-2,000 people in a fully flexible space that can be transformed to suit the requirements of different productions, from the traditional proscenium arch theatre format to immersive shows. Adding a new dimension to London’s performance arts scene, Troubadour Theatres will provide affordable space for emerging productions alongside world-renowned entertainment, to deliver a programme of over 200 shows per year. This is expected to draw between 200,000 and 360,000 visitors a year to the area.

This latest signing to the 85 acre Wembley Park redevelopment sees Quintain commit to its ambition to create a new cultural neighbourhood in North London, with social spaces at the core of the plans. In addition to the new theatre, Wembley Park will benefit from 500,000 sq ft of retail and leisure, including 240,000 sq ft of new space, London Designer Outlet attracting 7million visitors a year, 27 affordable artist studios, 7,000 new homes, new office spaces, and London’s largest Boxpark which opens in autumn 2018.

Matt Slade, Retail Director, Quintain comments: “We are thrilled to welcome Troubadour Theatres to Wembley Park and can’t wait to see the iconic Fountain Studios given a new lease of life, as it’s transformed into a brand-new theatre for those living, working and visiting Wembley Park. It’s great to see a new theatre open in London as the number of live venues across the capital continues to decline, demonstrating confidence in Wembley Park’s growing reputation as a cultural destination. The theatre epitomises our vision for the retail and leisure at Wembley Park, uniting national and international attractions alongside spaces for the creative arts to flourish and start up businesses to prosper.”

Troubadour Theatres has extensive experience managing popular theatre spaces in the capital, including the former King’s Cross Theatre, which housed the Olivier Award-winning production of The Railway Children.

Tristan Baker and Oliver Royds, Directors of Troubadour Theatres, comment: “We are delighted to be creating a state-of-the-art theatre in Wembley Park. The area’s heritage for performance, from musical shows at the SSE Arena, Wembley, to the television shows filmed in the building we’re inhabiting, teamed with its emerging independent retail and leisure offer, are an exciting combination for a theatre. The new theatre will be a modern venue for modern audiences. We see theatre audiences increasing year on year and we are excited, once again, to break the mould of traditional theatres and bring new innovative spaces to audiences and producers alike.”

Troubadour Theatre Wembley Park is set to open in the autumn of 2018. Details of the first production will be announced in the coming months.
