Carnoustie Golf Links

Carnoustie Golf Links has opened its brand new facility, providing a world-class experience for locals and visitors alike to match its reputation as one of the finest links courses in the world.

Links House includes seven state-of-the-art golf simulators, an elegant new pro shop and The Rookery – a contemporary bar and restaurant that boasts magnificent views over the golf courses and the sea.

Commenting on the new facility, Carnoustie Golf Links Chief Executive, Michael Wells, said: “We are extremely proud to be able to provide a world-class facility that matches the outstanding golf offering here at Carnoustie.

“The new building offers first class facilities where our local community and visitors from all over the world can enjoy refreshment and relaxation in the beautiful setting of Carnoustie, with spectacular vistas across the links and the sea.

“The opening of Links House ensures that we are now able to offer a five-star experience which rivals the world’s very best golfing venues.”

The simulators allow golfers, visitors and locals to play and practice golf inside and present a fantastic opportunity over the winter months when daylight is limited. Located just yards from the 1st tee of the World-Famous Championship course, users have 12 courses to choose from on the simulators including the Carnoustie Championship Course, Wentworth and Pebble Beach.

The restaurant means Carnoustie is now a destination for incredible food as well as world famous golf. With stunning views across the course to the sea, The Rookery showcases the best produce Scotland has to offer. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant offers a comfortable and relaxing eating space with outstanding service.

The design of The Rookery, along with other public spaces within Links House, was carried out by Penny Banks Ltd. Managing Director Penny Horner spoke to Premier Hospitality about the work:

“I think I work in quite a different way to other interior designers. My background was initially graphic design and I’ve done a lot of work on things like branding. When I design an interior, I really want to get the feel of the brand and almost bring that to life. Equally with the restaurant, it was really interesting what they were doing with the menu – they were offering a real mixture of the land and sea. That was my starting point for the interior. We wanted a mixture of the land and sea with the big mural in the restaurant reflective of this.

“Also, with Carnoustie not always being the warmest of places, we thought it was really important that we created something that was warm and cosy as opposed to clinical. It needed to have some soft edges and colours. We were really specific with the materials that we used. For the table tops we’ve used black fennec so it’s a matte black finish but it’s very tactile. Everything that we created, we wanted people to touch and feel it.

“I am immensely proud. To date, it’s the pinnacle of the projects that I have worked on. I am so thrilled with the way that it’s all tuned out, especially in view of the timescale that we had to work on it. It’s certainly an area that we are keen to progress further and we really are immensely proud of how it looks and how it has been received. The CGL team were a dream to work with and open to new ideas and pushing boundaries.”

The opening of Links House has been warmly received and has also provided a boost to the local economy by creating 26 more jobs. To find out more, please visit www.carnoustiegolflinks.co.uk or www.therookerycarnoustie.com.
