Written by Amy

This year, the iconic Lion Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, celebrates its 200th anniversary and its fifth anniversary as a Four Seasons Hotel. In 2015, following a meticulous restoration, Lion Palace became Four Seasons Hotel Lion Palace St. Petersburg, and today, the 19th Century royal residence remains one of the most spectacular palace hotels in the country.

Known to locals as ‘the House with Lions’, The Lion Palace is a remarkable building, the construction of which started 200 years ago. It is said that while Tsar Alexander I was riding through the city with Prince Lobanov-Rostovsky, he expressed his disappointment at the unsightly state of St. Isaac’s Square. In reaction to this, Lobanov-Rostovsky invited the world-famous architect Auguste de Montferrand to design a new building, and two years on, a magnificent new palace was presented to Tsar Alexander I as a sign of the loyalty to the throne.

Today, the iconic palace has become a rare pearl of priceless Russian heritage due to both its long and fascinating history and the scrupulous work of Tristar Investment Holdings. Two marble lions on each side of the main entrance of the palace were created by Italian sculptor Paolo Triscorni and became one of the main symbols of St. Petersburg, and now welcome guests and visitors to Russia’s second Four Seasons Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel Lion Palace St. Petersburg.

Four Seasons Hotel Lion Palace St. Petersburg keeps the spirit of Russian royalty alive, with opulent stylings of imperial Russia that are still prominent throughout the Hotel, every bit as inspiring as they were centuries ago.
