Farzi Café

Experimental Indian cuisine has arrived in London in the form of Farzi Café. Opening in November 2018, Farzi Café has been brought to the UK by Indian hospitality group Massive Restaurants and builds on a portfolio that includes nine sites across India and one in Dubai.

Farzi Café – billed as the modern Indian bistro – brings together global cuisine with Indian influences to produce contemporary dishes rich in flavour and creativity. Award-winning chef Saurabh Udinia is overseeing the London restaurant. Farzi Café is primarily placed in the capital, just a short distance from the Theatre Royal Haymarket and other busy Westminster attractions. It is sure to be a popular destination for pre and post-show dining.

To carry out the design of this exciting new venture for the Farzi Café brand, Massive Restaurants enlisted the help of award-winning hospitality design practice DesignLSM. The company first began working on the project in November 2017 and work commenced on site in August 2018. Designer Natasha Champ said:

“Our brief was to help introduce the established and experimental Farzi Café concept into the London market. We worked with the client on everything from the strategical positioning to the interior design and brand implementation. The design narrative focuses on the playful, inventive and energetic persona of the brand, creating an exciting, visual and immersive environment for London diners.

“The 4,000 sq ft site is split across two floors. The ground floor main restaurant/bar features a striking brass and oaks ceiling raft which guides diners to the ‘culinary heart’ of the space – the open kitchen which is accompanied by a dedicated chef’s table. The basement floor offers a more intimate dining environment suitable for private events and parties.

“Deep hues of green marble, rich leather and velvet upholstery make up the refined palette, which conveys the elegance of the renowned Indian cuisine. A particular highlight of the design is the ornate brass leafs which adorns the space along with rich tones of fumed oak timber, creating a playful aesthetic that evokes elements of movement, texture and pattern.”

Natasha added:

“We are delighted to be part of Farzi’s exciting journey into the UK market. The brand have revolutionised people’s perception of experimental Indian cuisine and we can’t wait to see them captivate the London restaurant scene.”
