Bellway Homes Acquires Land in Lower Sydenham for Development
Written by Amy

Bellway Homes has acquired a new development site at Maybrey Works, Worsley Bridge Road in Lower Sydenham.  This brownfield site has historically been commercial land, originally used as a foundry, which produced items for the war effort during the World War II and currently houses outdated and rundown general industrial works.

Bellway is due to begin construction early in 2019 after the demolition of the existing industrial warehouses.  The scheme will include quality new homes and a sustainable high-quality light industrial space that will retain the existing tenants and attract new businesses and jobs to the area. The new development will comprise 159 one, two and three-bedroom apartments with a shared courtyard to separate the residential homes from the workspace. Basement level parking will be created to serve the commercial businesses and residents.

The new workspace will increase the commercial area to 1,200 sqm boosting employment for the area. The light industrial buildings have been designed to be more flexible for use by a variety of industries including creative and business startups, using natural light and modern designs to make the work areas fresh and up to date.

Jamie MacArthur, Divisional Planning Manager for Bellway Homes’ Thames Gateway division, said: “We are pleased to be starting work on this piece of land which is currently a blot on the local landscape.  We are delighted to be contributing to the neighbourhoods’ transformation, bringing new homes and business space to an area that is crying out for re-development.

“These new properties will take advantage of the local amenities and excellent transport links. In unlocking its development potential, the regeneration of this brownfield space will make a significant contribution to supporting Sydenham’s growing housing requirement.”

The homes will have attractive communal facilities with an entrance portal, a resident’s gym, cycle stores and discrete refuse areas.  Appealing landscaping will be created with a podium garden for the residents including play areas.

For more active pursuits, Beckenham Place Park is the largest green space in the borough covering 98 hectares and containing large areas of ancient woodland.  This lovely park is just one mile from Maybrey Works and has many amenities including a café, cycle ways, a ball court, tennis and a sensory garden.

Ideal for commuters, Lower Sydenham is a two minute walk from Maybrey Works with connections into Charing Cross and Cannon Street in as little as 23 minutes.

Homes are expected to go on sale in Winter 2019, with Help to Buy available on selected plots. For more information, email thamesgate-sales@bellway.co.uk  or call 0203 105 0073.
