Bannatyne Opens New Ingleby Barwick Spa

The Bannatyne Group has opened its latest spa as part of a £1.8 million investment at its Ingleby Barwick Health Club, which was the company’s first location.

Work on the renovation of the site began in September 2017 and was spread over three phases, with the main project completing in April 2018. Work on the project was undertaken by Jackson Design Associates (JDA) and Togel Contractors Ltd.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality magazine about the project, Jackson Design Associates Director Luke Hunter said: “JDA has been providing architectural and project management services for The Bannatyne Group for a number of years. We were fully engaged on the project, following initial concept work in 2015 to establish how the club could be altered to align it with the more ‘standard’ new build Bannatyne club model, in terms of its spatial relationship, circulation, facilities, aesthetics and equipment.

“The design brief was essentially to align the health club and member experience with other clubs in The Bannatyne Group’s estate. The initial design process involved interpreting this high-level brief and developing concept sketch options, which were reviewed and developed with The Bannatyne Group’s estates team and club representatives. Bannatyne is always looking to develop new ideas and specifications in line with current sector thinking to enhance its health clubs and member and guest journeys.”

The Bannatyne Spa adds a new dimension to the health and wellbeing offering at the health club, with five well-appointed treatment rooms – one of which is a dual room, as well as manicure and pedicure stations and a range of spa treatments using high quality products such as Elemis, HD brows, LVL and Jessica Nailcare.

The new poolside relaxation area, which will open in the summer, will enhance the club’s wet facilities for both members and spa guests.

A new café bar with a late license and serving Starbucks coffee will be available for members and their guests and includes a soft play area, live sports broadcasts and outdoor patio area.

Karen Wilkinson, Group Spa Director at The Bannatyne Group said: “Ingleby Barwick will always be special as the first club opened by Duncan Bannatyne, OBE.

“The addition of a Bannatyne Spa is fantastic news for the health club and the local area. It will support our focus on holistic health and wellbeing and enable people to fulfil their desire for healthy lifestyles based on a blend of exercise, relaxation and rejuvenation.”

Luke added: “Overall feedback from the club and its users has been great. The project has completely transformed the club by bringing the building and facilities fully up-to-date. The Spa offers the club a completely new aspect, while the relocation and enhancement of the café bar and function spaces have seen increased use by the local community.

“It was a privilege to work on this challenging and successful project providing significantly enhanced facilities for the health club’s very friendly members.”
