German Doner Kebab

The quality kebab brand is set to expand further across the UK, US, Canada and Middle East. The kebabs at German Doner Kebab are made from quality ingredients and with unique stores across the UK, and more overseas, the brand is giving the kebab a new name in quality.

German Doner Kebab’s menu offers traditional, but quality succulent kebabs. There’s the original, a wrap, a burger, a quesadilla and then the boxed meals. All of this is alongside sophisticated nibbles such as the doner meat spring rolls, nachos, and chilli cheese bites and sides of different fries and extra toppings.

Premier Hospitality spoke to Daniel Bunce, Managing Director of German Doner Kebab, about their brand.

What stands out about your brand?

“The main unique selling point of the brand is that we sell lean and succulent meat, imported from Germany and we only use beef and chicken fillets, to maintain consistency and quality. We use waffle toasted bread that is always fresh and comes from Germany”

How long have you been with the company?

“I joined when the company had 12 stores in the UK and now we have just opened our 33rd store in the UK. It’s nonstop, we’re growing well.

“Expansion was always the aim for us. Our headquarters are in Scotland and we’ve got more locations across the UK, Sweden, Middle East and we’re set to open in Canada, Houston and NY.”

What do you look for in a new location?

“Our standard store format is about 1,800 sq ft. We can go up to 3,300 or as low as 900 and where we can adapt the layouts for the location.”

What is your target audience?

“Our audience is all ages, but we do very much cater for the millennial generation – they’re a key target audience too.”

What is the store design like?

“Our overall theme is our orange walkway. We call it the runway and when you come into the store it guides you from the door to the counter.

“In terms of design throughout, we use a vivid orange in the design and elements of grey and black.”

Has German Doner Kebab faced any challenges as a fast growing brand?

“We run a detailed supply chain so we’ve got to make sure we’re consistent with our food and ingredients and where they’re sourced from.

“Secondly, finding locations used to prove a challenge. When we started out, landlords didn’t want us running in their buildings because they saw us as just a ‘kebab shop,’ but now they’re the ones approaching us now that people are seeing where we’re taking the kebab market. We overcame that challenge through design of our stores, and the quality of the food itself. People now see us as brand as opposed to just a one off food shop. We’re entering three shopping centres next month and a year ago we would’ve struggled with that, because of the assumptions made.”

Lastly, where do you see yourself in the future?

“Currently in the UK we’ve got 33 shops but by the end of 2019 we’re looking to double that to about 65, and to carry on expanding worldwide too.”
