NHBC Awards North East & Yorkshire

Simon’s a winner – yet again!

NHBC award-winning veteran Simon Ryan has picked up yet another Quality award for his work as Site Manager at Miller Homes’ H2010 development – adding to his previous Quality Award wins in 2005, 2006 and 2009, plus a prestigious Seal of Excellence accolade in 2005.

“We are delighted with the win. We thought we were in the running for it because the quality on site is pretty good and we were already familiar with the targets we needed to achieve,” said Simon.

The most important factor in winning an award, he says, is having a good team: “We were fortunate to win an award in 2009 and I have been able to bring the same team from that site here.” He added: “Health and safety on site is also paramount. We all come to work to earn money, but we all want to go home safely.”

Simon has been in the construction industry for many years, starting out in a joiners shop and then as a joiner on site, before progressing to site manager. He has been with Miller Homes for nine years.

H2010 at Yarn Street, Hunslet, Leeds will comprise 281 properties, including two, three and four-bedroom mews/terraces, apartments and semidetached properties. The first phase of 61 properties was completed last year and construction of phase two, which includes 59 properties, is currently underway. Phase one is almost sold out, with just five properties remaining and at least 14 forward sales on the books for Phase 2. From Phase 2 onwards, all the homes will be served by a combined heat and power plant to provide hot water.

Properties on the development  include the Ford four-bedroom mews/terrace. With elegant French doors creating an airy, spacious feel to the living room, the Ford offers comfortable family accommodation and features some great use of space. Three comfortable rooms on the second floor make great bedrooms or even a home office, whilst the luxurious master bedroom on the top floor features a walk-in dressing suite. The ground floor utility room keeps all household chores out of the way. All in all, this is a very flexible and family friendly home.

A three bedroom semidetached house, the Race is a great family home. The ground floor utility room ensures household chores are kept out of sight. There is also a convenient under-stairs cupboard. A spacious first floor living room with Juliet balcony creates a great living area, whilst the second floor accommodation comprises comfortable bedrooms, one of which could be a study/home office. An integral garage also provides a useful place for storage.

The Bluewater FF two bedroom apartment offers comfortable open plan living space, whilst the two storey penthouse design offers stylish and impressive accommodation, including large terraces. Well proportioned communal areas help create a sense of security and foster a sense of community. Nearby Leeds provides all the facilities for a work-life balance, with easy access to major transport links and international destinations. Leeds’ rich culture and heritage, coupled with a friendly, warm approach, make it a target destination for companies and individuals alike.
