Work continues to make great progress on a new care home for Signature Senior Lifestyle.
The £13 million project is being constructed in Coombe, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey and comprises the construction of a 92-suite care facility. GB Building Solutions is the main contractor on the new care home which has been designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ and will include a combined heat and power (CHP) plant and solar thermal panels.
The brand new development will include 24 specially designed dementia care suites, which will range from studios through to two-bedroom units. Additional facilities at the care home include a restaurant, bistro, hair salon, cinema, spa bathroom, lounges and a cinema and exhibition space.
Martin Smout, Chairman and Chief Executive of GB Group, said:
“GB shares Signature’s ‘people focus’ to create a community for residents, providing a premium service where residents can have both expert care and a happy, stimulating lifestyle. We are using our expertise to make sure that residents live in a high quality building where this lifestyle is possible.”
Wayne Pryce, Director of Development and Construction for Signature, said:
“We are delighted to be working with GB as they support Signature’s growth plan for the South East. Signature prides itself on putting its residents at the heart of everything it does, offering a place to genuinely feel at home, in specially designed suites, where residents can enjoy quality meals and a full range of activities.”
Work began on the project in October 2012 and is currently on programme to reach completion in spring 2014. In addition to its work on the new Coombe-based facility, GB was recently awarded a £10 million contract for the construction of a new care home in Espom, Surrey.
Martin Smout, said:
“This is the sixth care facility we have been awarded in the last 12 months and the third for Signature Senior Lifestyle. This appointment reinforces the fact that GB is now recognised as one of the UK’s leading specialist contractors in the care sector.
“Our extensive knowledge of the very specific needs of this sector in catering for some of the UK’s most vulnerable people and our in-depth understanding of how care facilities operate, enables us to provide tailored solutions for every care operator we work with, whether they want a niche building or something more standard.”
Wayne Pryce, for Signature, added:
“GB continues to support Signature in its plan to develop an additional 11 new homes in London and the Home Counties over the next four years, at a cost in excess of £250 million. At Signature we offer exceptional levels of person-centred care and the highest possible quality of life, in terms of both luxurious accommodation and support, all provided within exquisite purpose-built properties. We look forward to successfully completing our new home in Epsom and welcoming residents.”
The Epsom-based care home will provide 87 private apartments, divided between a mix of studios and one-bedroom suites. Similar to the Coombe care home, the Epsom facility will include a hair salon, restaurant and bistro and is scheduled to open to residents in autumn 2014.
