Sarah Hindmarsh, head of interiors at 20.20 said:

“At 20.20 we have a good pedigree in hospitality, and we were assigned the task of interior design. Our company has worked with high profile clients such as Arsenal FC, Man City FC and Liverpool FC and each time they have appreciated our approach because we delivered spaces that reflect their brand through storytelling. We’re not just an interior design agency, we’re a strategic design business and we put storytelling at the heart of what we do.”

The state-of-the-art design of the new restaurant is based on the craftsmen who are the farrier, trainer, the groom, saddler and the jockey. This design provides the guests with insight to some of the most important people involved with the race horses and racetrack at Ascot.

Kerridge’s innovative menu will include poached lobster and late season English asparagus salad, pickled cucumber and borage; Montgomery leek, potato croquette and summer truffle mayonnaise; treacle cured fillet of Lancashire beef with Hand and Flowers chips ad béarnaise sauce; and lemon cream, lemon verbena, pistachios and meringues.

Tom Kerridge said:

“I am thrilled to be hosting Ascot’s new restaurant On 5 during Royal Ascot this year. It’s a stunning facility that suits the history and elegance of the racecourse. I had a lot of fun hosting a restaurant during Royal Ascot last year and look forward to returning with some new ideas to help make this year’s event one to remember.”

Having been enticed by internationally respected chefs and innovative menus, 35,000 guests are expected to attend and dine at the new opening at Royal Ascot 2014.This will be the second consecutive year that Tom Kerridge has provided his inspired and artistic take on British classics at Royal Ascot, which takes place from Tuesday 17th June to Saturday 21st June.

Most of the design of the project ran smoothly, however from a design perspective the air conditioning unit was a challenge due to the low ceiling height. Also a significant aim of the interior was to create a light and airy space, which was affected by the low ceilings and through imagery was a slight difficulty; as most restaurants and hospitality possess an evening setting.

However despite this, the eatery has been delivered as a successfully completed project which promises a wonderful experience to all guests. The feedback so far has been very positive and this is excellent news to all parties involved within the new development.

Jon added:

“It is exceptionally important for us to be involved with such a prestigious project and venue; Ascot has an incredible heritage. We visited last year to get an idea of the spaces and to understand the guest experience so that everything we did was informed by a customer perspective. We were also looking at the interiors in hospitality to see how they would work operationally, whilst applying the aims of the design. We really wanted to deliver an impressive space which reflected the top-end grandstand experience.”
