Rhondda Housing Association

Rhondda Housing Association is a not for profit organisation, overseen by a voluntary management board.

With strong links to the community, Rhondda Housing Association is a trusted housing association which provides well maintained surveyed properties at an affordable rent.

The association’s goal is to create sustainable communities and it strives to ensure that all services meet the needs of its tenants. In respect of this, Rhondda Housing Association carries out important maintenance work via two categories: planned and reactive maintenance.

The planned maintenance department handles all of the association’s rolling programmes, taking into account kitchen installations, cyclical painting, heating system replacements and window and door installations. Rhondda conducts Stock Condition Surveys (SCSs) every five years and these allow the association to keep track of the condition of each of its houses.

For houses in desperate need of attention, Rhondda carries out Physical Adaptation Grants (PAGs) which are designed to comply with the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS).

Meanwhile, Rhondda’s reactive maintenance department handles all daily repairs, provides out of hours emergency repair services and all works connected to empty properties. The department is responsible for maintaining gas central heating systems and ensuring gas safety checks are conducted.

When reporting a repair, all tenants are asked to provide as much information as possible about the work required. The association then informs tenants, in writing, of the work that will be carried out and by which contractor.

A spokesperson for Rhondda Housing Association, said:

“The Association is community based, with strong links within the communities it serves, managing approximately 1,500 homes. We offer a range of services including supported housing, social housing and support to the elderly and regeneration services. We seek a long term future for our communities and tenants who are increasingly marginalised with a real poverty of aspiration. We focus on quality of life and regeneration issues to remove the barriers and create strong communities.

“Rhondda Housing Association is a well-respected employer. We want staff to enjoy their work, to have the opportunity to progress, to feel involved in changes that affect them at work and to initiate ideas on service improvement. All employees have access to development and training and receive appropriate reward and recognition to ensure a high quality service is achieved and maintained.”
