Leon Restaurants opened their 21st restaurant at Stansted Airport on the 15th December 2014 forming a part of the vast refurbishment project at the airport to improve facilities for passengers.

Over 70 food and drink businesses competed for the 12 units to form part of Stansted’s revamp, which aims to make the airport the best in London.

Naturally Fast Food chain Leon offers diners a fast food alternative to fat-filled, sugary brands. Leon serves tasty, healthy dishes all of which have been inspired by the flavours, variety and natural healthiness of Mediterranean cooking.

Leon co-founder and CEO John Vincent said:

“2014 marked our 10th birthday, and opening in Stansted was a big part of our celebrations. When we opened in Carnaby Street in 2004 and first started working out how to make and serve naturally fast food, this is exactly what we dreamt of creating.’

Leon is important to the airport’s redevelopment, which is designed to deliver new and exciting brands to their passengers. Head of Retail Food & Beverage for M.A.G Jo Macey said:

“Leon is a very exciting concept in the healthy fast food market and their arrival into Stansted is another stepping stone on the £80million transformation taking place to improve facilities for our passengers.

“Operated by HMS Host, this will be the first time Leon has featured on the menu at Stansted and I’d like to wish them every success with what will be a very popular option for passengers seeking low calorie food that tastes good and does you good. The great selection on offer can be enjoyed either before the flight or taken away to eat on-board.”

Diners can sample Leon’s specialist Hot Boxes choosing from Chargrilled Chicken Aiolo, Chicken & Chorizo Club, Sweet Potato Falafel, Moroccan Meatballs and Thai Green Chicken Curry. Wraps, Lunchboxes, Superfood Salads, Burgers and Sides & Snack Pots are also available to enjoy.

Stanstead Airport Expansion

Stansted Airport saw over two million passengers pass through its doors in 2014; more than ever before making it the UK’s fastest growing airport. Speaking at the end of 2014 on the year’s successes Andrew Harrison, Stansted’s Managing Director, said:

“We have made excellent progress on our £80 million terminal upgrade and we are now well into the final phase of this project as we complete the remaining bars, restaurants, shops and a new seating area in the departure lounge. This is geared towards transforming airport services and facilities and driving greater customer improvements.

“We now look forward to building on the success of the last year during 2015 and attracting even more passengers, airlines and routes to Stansted. Flybe will soon launch new services across the UK and, in the summer, Thomas Cook will be launching long-haul flights to the USA and Mexico. The coming months will also see the opening of our new Escape passenger lounge in the terminal.”
