Following a brief absence from the Birmingham area, Spanish hospitality and cuisine specialists La Tasca has returned to the city with a fantastic new restaurant.

The venue – which is part of the Barclay Card Arena – was unveiled to the public in March 2015 and is the first new-build project for the restaurant group in more than six years.

La Tasca Barclay Card Arena is situated on the ground floor of the arena, overlooking the canal at Brindleyplace, and covers an area of 3,200 sq ft. The restaurant boasts an open-plan kitchen and a paella station and has been very warmly received since it opened its doors.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality about this latest opening, Simon Brown, Head of Properties for La Tasca, said:

“We were keen to get back into Birmingham and this location provided us with a great opportunity to return to the city in such a great way. This project is the first newly constructed La Tasca for 6-and-a-half years, so it is a very important one for us.

“We have opened with a new contemporary design with a bare industrial ceiling, using a range of materials and varied vibrant lighting. A spectacular modern Spanish Muriel in the restaurant makes quirky references to Spain and the theme continues on the raw concrete pillars into the Bar de Sangria.”

Over the last four years La Tasca has developed its menu, shifting the focus from 85% frozen ingredients to 85% fresh ingredients, to create an award winning gluten free menu. This latest restaurant boasts the same, great menu, but introduces an open-plan kitchen as well as a paella station – an addition which fits in perfectly with its surroundings.

Simon commented:

“Being in the arena we expect quite a high demand for our restaurants, especially when popular events and shows are taking place, so we have incorporated a paella station within our open plan kitchen. The paella station provides us with the opportunity to serve paella at a quick pace and it adds an aspect of theatre to the restaurant too.”

As with all La Tasca restaurants, the menu at the Barclay Card Arena is as extensive as it is inviting and includes a tempting array of dishes, from starters through to desserts. Choices include the likes of Gambas Pil Pil, Pollo Con Crema and Paella Del Dia to the always popular home-made beef burgers and slow-cooked pork cheeks.

In addition to meat dishes, a range of vegetarian options is available, alongside a selection of breads and nibbles. Meanwhile, for those with a sweet tooth, a devilishly tempting collection of desserts is available, including new additions to the menu such as the Crema Catalana and the pastry-based dish, the Trenza.

Guests at La Tasca Barclay Card Arena will also find the Bar de Sangria fully stocked, with a collection of 14 varieties of sangria, so that those attending the arena can have a drink or two before their show gets underway.

Simon designed and project managed the construction of La Tasca Barclay Card Arena with the help of Johnson Robson Architects, whilst leading commercial shopfitter, Interiors UK was the main contractor. Working together, the team created a vibrant and contemporary restaurant, which was delivered under budget.

With the new restaurant continuing to perform well, Simon is now looking to the future and other opportunities where La Tasca can expand the portfolio.

Simon commented:

“We’ve spent the last year investing in every single La Tasca site, so now we are actively looking for other new build sites.”
