Premier Construction Issue 22.5

Dear readers,

Welcome to the latest edition of Premier Construction magazine.

In this month’s edition, we investigate the Bridlington leisure centre project; we cast an eye over Swansea City Football Club’s new academy facilities; and with the recent floods hitting headlines throughout December and January, Premier Construction offers up some important flood prevention advice.

A major new leisure complex with extensive state of the art facilities including swimming pools, a health suite, fitness suite, sports hall, retail units and a cafe, the East Riding Leisure: Bridlington centre is under construction, replacing an older facility.Due for completion in summer 2016, the project is a redevelopment of Bridlington Leisure World, which had reached the end of its economic life with its deteriorating building fabric and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Swansea City Football Club have extended their academy building, allowing them to have certified Academy 1 status, meaning that future football stars nationwide can attend the state-of-the-art training and learning facilities. Since the club gained Premier League status in 2012, they have extended the building and expanded the facilities in order to gain Academy 2 status, which is where students can travel from 90 minutes away to attend. The club wanted to gain this status and build a new training facility with a changing block, in fitting with the standard of other premiership clubs.

And finally, Flooding is the biggest threat the UK faces as a result of Climate Change. A warmer atmosphere can hold more moisture, which means rainfall and storms can be more intense. Alongside this, as sea water warms, it expands. Urban Flood Water can carry dangerous bacteria that cause disease, especially where sewers have overflowed. 40% of businesses do not reopen following a catastrophic loss such as flooding, and average insurance claim for a flood is in the region of £30,000. In this issue, Simon Crowther BEng (Hons), Founder and MD of Flood Protection Solutions Ltd offers up some top tips and advice for those looking to reduce the risk of flooding in their area.

With all this and more, join us as we explore the impressive construction projects that continue to shape our landscape.
