Kirk Raine – Webbs Meadow – Top honours with NHBC

Webbs Meadow

Senior Site Manager Kirk Raine has earned the ultimate accolade – as ‘Supreme Winner’ in the Large Builder Category at the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards. He was one of 43 regional winners chosen following an intense selection process throughout the year. After much deliberation and scrutiny, the overall prize was presented during a prestigious gala at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel.

Kirk, who is 43, won the award for his work for David Wilson Homes at its Webbs Meadow site in Lawley Village, Telford. He led the stunning 109-unit development site which was constructed using a range of quality products including SR Timber Premium Gold Batten on the roofs.

With such a vast project to manage, Kirk was presented with the challenge of maintaining the highest health and safety standards whilst adhering to a strict build programme and meeting all technical aspects of the specification across his site under the watchful eye of the NHBC. Speaking of how he secured the award and customer satisfaction success, he commented: “You have to start from day one when you are setting up the site. You have to ensure all contractors work to high standards of quality in all trades when constructing a home, from the foundations upwards throughout the build. And this applies to every property on every site.”

Pride in the Job Award is the only UK-wide competition dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in house building. It has been instrumental in driving up the quality of new homes for 35 years. The award is the highest accolade a site manager can receive. Speaking of Kirk’s award, Adam Pearson, Director at SM Roofing Contracts Ltd, the roofing contractor for the Webbs Meadow development, commented: “We’ve worked with Kirk for a number of years as a site manager. He has great organisational skills and ensures quality all the way through. It’s Kirk’s accolade, but to be on the winning site for the Large Builder category is also very important to us as a business.”

Adam said the specification of SR Timber’s renowned Premium Gold Batten, which is NHBC compliant and meets all relevant British Standards – BS 8417 and BS 5534:2014 – helped ensure the project was successfully completed within the strict deadline and to the client’s complete satisfaction.

Adam commented: “Due to their outstanding quality and reliability, we only ever work with SR Timber Premium Gold Battens. It’s a product we trust.”

Kirk Raine has been in the construction industry since he was 16, having started as a bricklayer. He became a senior site manager in 2008. Webbs Meadow features three and four bedroom homes in a range of designs and styles. It was designed using a variety of coloured render and brick, adding an aesthetically pleasant feel to create a vibrant new community in Telford.

Kirk added: “Although it is nice to win these awards and be recognised, another important thing for me is to get each house right for the customer to move in. Winning awards is all about team effort. I try to be firm but fair and have good quality contractors working with me.”
