Neighbourhood reopens

East Coast Concepts has reopened its Neighbourhood restaurant and bar in Spinningfields, Manchester following a £1m refurbishment of the venue.

Designed by Ed Pickett, with work undertaken by main contractors GF Holding, the new-look all day eatery and late night bar is a corporate social hub throughout the week and offers a destination where diners can go to have a night out on Friday and Saturday nights.

David Bradley from GF Holding said: “It was a very fast rapid refurbishment, taking just four weeks. We have undertaken many similar projects over the last four decades and it was one of the quickest fit out that G F Holding has undertaken. It was major achievement and our team worked 24/7 for four weeks. Minimising any disturbance to the many surrounding businesses and restaurants complicated the project further.”

The venue has had a complete makeover inside, showcasing a new colourful design.

David said: “We stripped the unit almost back to shell, leaving just the main bar structure and the kitchen equipment. The new scheme included a lot of leather banquette seating, marble, new oak floors, a special effect gold ceiling and new light fittings, with many items being bespoke.”

Featuring bright green leather booths set against wood panelling, marble top tables and Jason Pollock-style paintings that fill the main dining space, the space is overlooked by the bar, which has also been given a new look with a living wall of plants hanging above it.

Towards the back of the resturant is a separate dining room which has been decorated with pop art portraits of Marily Monroe. The dining room features its own bar and a gin trolley that can be wheeled across the black and white chequered floor to serve drinks to guests in the pink leather booths and plush chairs.

The mezzanine floor hosts a gentlemen’s club-style snug with dark leather booths and a DJ booth, which looks out from a window over the main bar below.

Operations Director Ciaran Hogg will take the reins of the all-day dining restaurant and with a renewed focus on diners, new Head Chef Mike Jennings has introduced a modern, all day brasserie menu, designed with a nod to the US.

The venue offers an easy eating, comforting, all-day brasserie style menu suitable for anyone at any time of the day. Whether it’s Eggs Benedict for brunch, legendary Lil’Burgers and Lobster Tacos for lunch or Fish and Chips for dinner, washed down with a glass of white wine, then Neighbourhood has it available. Neighbourhood also offers all-day New York style brunches and provides an alternative base for mid-week events and meetings.

The state-of-the-art refurbishment comes as the group starts on-site at its Liverpool venue and eyes a turnover of £11 million for the year.

James Hitchen, Owner and Founder of East Coast Concepts, who trained to be a BBQ pit boss in Nashville, America said: “The restaurant and bar scene in Manchester has exploded since Neighbourhood launched back in November 2013. The hospitality market in the North West is continuing to thrive and we want the new-look Neighbourhood to remain at the forefront.

“The venue is ideally situated in Spinningfields, Manchester’s vibrant commercial district and we’ve enhanced our offer to ensure the venue caters for the corporate audience throughout the estate and across the city.

“I am also absolutely delighted that we have managed to attract such a huge talent in Ciaran. This is a major win for us as Ciaran will be instrumental in the expansion of the brand as we continue to improve our offering and open new restaurants further afield.

“Now is a very exciting time and we have big growth plans across the group. We’re on-site with Neighbourhood on Castle St. in Liverpool and look forward to opening the venue in October this year. This will see our staff head count reach 200.”

Ciaran Hogg commented: “I am looking forward to the fresh challenges ahead of me with the exciting period of growth for the Neighbourhood brand in Manchester and beyond.”

David added: “Delivering the Neighbourhood refubishment project for East Coast Concepts was certainly a challenge for us but the end result has been a great success. We are looking forward to working with the same team in Liverpool.”

Neighbourhood reopened on Friday 3 June and is open from noon to 11pm, Monday to Friday and 10am to 11pm, Saturday to Sunday. The dining room is open daily from 6pm and the bar is open from noon to 1am, Sunday to Wednesday and from noon to 3am Thursday to Saturday.
