Demoiselle by Galvin, Dubai
Open since March 2017, Demoiselle by Galvin is the latest venture from Michelin-starred chefs Chris and Jeff Galvin. The restaurant, designed by DesignLSM, is the first Galvin venue to open in the Middle East and can be found in Dubai’s newest urban living destination – CITY WALK 2.
Set across two floors, the 6,039 sqft restaurant has 210-covers and includes an artisan patisserie counter, juice bar, modern tea parlour and two intimate terrace spaces. The concept behind Demoiselle by Galvin, Dubai, expands upon the brand’s flagship restaurant which can be found at the world famous Harrods department store in London.
Having worked with Galvin on a number of projects over the years, DesignLSM has an extensive knowledge of what the Galvin brothers are looking for in a restaurant. Speaking to Premier Hospitality International, Architectural Director Simon Spiteri gave an overview of the new site:
“The idea was to create an elegant, modern and stylish aesthetic with some signature touches to make it recognisable as a Galvin venue.
“On the ground floor there are two main entrances, one from the street and one from the piazza. The ground floor is home to the patisserie, a juice bar and a coffee bar. There is also an open kitchen, which creates a sense of culinary theatre for patrons.”
“A staircase then takes you up to the first floor, which is a stunning double height space. In this area there are a series of crystal light fittings complemented by an array of hanging plants. There is strong botanical theme to the furnishings and, in particular, the ceiling design. The ceiling is made from a series of plywood inlay panels with beautiful illustrations of birds printed on. It is a very striking element of the overall design scheme. There is also the opportunity to dine outside in the terrace area that offers views across the piazza.”
The branding team at DesignLSM also created a unique identity for the restaurant using striking bird illustrations to enhance the feminine roots of the ‘Demoiselle’ design. The opulent gold and green colour palette applied in the packaging, print collateral and website were developed to compliment the overall interior scheme, creating an integrated visual experience for the Galvin customer.
As well as being a first venture into the Middle East market for Galvin, the project was also a first for DesignLSM. Simon concluded:
“The feedback we’ve had from people who’ve dined there and from Galvin themselves has been great. They’re absolutely delighted with it and there’s nothing else like it in Dubai. We have achieved something very unique.
“Working on this project was a big moment for DesignLSM as we had been looking to work out in the Middle East. It was also important to maintain a relationship with Galvin and to do a really good job. It is a showpiece design for us as a company but it is also befitting of the Galvin brand.”
