Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa

Bringing a touch of luxury and glamour to Southampton’s Ocean Village Marina, Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa is a striking new waterfront venue. With its super-yacht inspired design, the hotel officially opened in November in 2017.

The latest addition to the Harbour Hotels Group, the 85 bedroom hotel combines a stunning, contemporary interior design with the group’s award-winning restaurant and spa brands. The hotel boasts unique dining experiences, Southampton’s first destination rooftop bar, a luxury spa and health club, private cinema, state-of-the-art meetings and events facilities and breath-taking views of the marina.

The opening of the £25 million development is a major milestone for both Harbour Hotels and the city, reinforcing Ocean Village Marina as one of the most desirable locations in the UK. Mike Warren, Managing Director of Harbour Hotels, said:

“We are thrilled to unveil our spectacular new Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa development at Ocean Village, introducing five star luxury to the marina. Attracting tourism and providing a number of fantastic dining experiences, an indulgent spa and Southampton’s first destination rooftop bar for locals to enjoy, we are very excited to officially open our doors.”

Harbour Hotel

To find out more about the hotel’s unique design and the inspiration behind it, Premier Hospitality spoke to Harbour Hotels Creative Director, Eldon James. He said:

“The Chairman, Nicolas Roach, was instrumental in defining the architectural style and came up with the concept of the super-yacht design which ensured all bedrooms had a view and large glass windows ensuring plenty of natural light. He also influenced the two feature staircases, one in the main reception and one in the spa reception.

“From a design perspective, we obviously wanted a luxurious feel but at the same time comfort and fun were important elements for us. We looked at a mix of contemporary elements so the reception desk and staircase, for example, are finished in polished plaster. As you walk through to the lounge and The Jetty restaurant, there are a lot more luxurious fabrics and plenty of colour and vibrancy. The striking wooden floor add warmth.

“The bedrooms are colourful but at the same time we wanted to keep a spacious and fresh feel. We’ve focused on the luxury element in the bathrooms with marble tiles, large showers and brass-framed mirrors.”

Reflecting on feedback so far, Eldon added:

“The feedback has been great and we get constant enquires about the fabrics, furniture and artwork, which is always encouraging. We are extremely proud and it is our flagship hotel. We started from scratch and it’s an immense achievement. It epitomises what we stand for and I am really happy with what we have delivered.”

Guests and visitors to the hotel are not short on food and drink options, from the Group’s award-winning restaurant concept, The Jetty, to rooftop destination ‘HarBAR on 6th’. The Jetty, which drifts out onto an extensive outdoor decked terrace taking in the marina setting, has a philosophy of ‘fresh, seasonal and local’. Headed up by the group’s Chef Patron Alex Aitken guests can expect fantastic seafood and an eclectic wine list.

The top floor ‘HarBAR on 6th’ evolves throughout the day, from brunch and long lunches to late night dancing. Its expansive outdoor terrace features fire pits, a wood-fired pizza oven and a retractable heated canopy meaning the space can be enjoyed throughout the year. The bar, with its informal design and feel, has already established itself as a go to destination for Southampton nightlife.

Relaxation comes in the form of the Group’s unique HarSPA brand where guests can enjoy luxury facilities alongside indulgent treatments. Featuring an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy pool, relaxation areas and a relaxed juice bar and café, locals can enjoy membership options, with full use of the spa, fitness classes and exclusive offers.

On the first floor, the hotel features the city’s most impressive events space – perfect for weddings, meetings and events. With walls of glass to soak up the marina views, the hotel’s exclusive function space features stunning contemporary design and capacity for up to 200 guests. There are also a number of smaller, flexible spaces featured alongside, all set in contemporary and stylish surroundings.

The hotel even features its own cinema for up to 21 people. With daily showings of the latest films and cult classics, alongside complimentary popcorn, guests can simply sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Having created over 120 local jobs and provided a major boost to tourism in the area, the Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa marks an exciting time for the area and the Harbour Hotels Group. Speaking of the city’s new addition, Leader of Southampton City Council Simon Letts said:

“It’s fantastic to see the Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa now open at Ocean Village Marina. The yacht inspired design draws on our maritime heritage and is an example of the high quality construction we welcome in Southampton.

“Catering for the luxury end of the market, the hotel will meet the needs of visitors to the city who are looking to indulge themselves, being the only 5 star venue in Southampton. Offering an outstanding opportunity to take advantage of the unique views across the world-famous Solent, this top-end venue at Ocean Village is certainly set to become one of the most unique destinations in the UK.”
