Independent Living for the over 55s

Llys Y Brenin is a brand new Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) housing development offering independent living opportunities for people aged over 55 in Monmouthshire, south Wales. Located less than half a mile from the historic market town of Abergavenny, Llys Y Brenin has a range of high quality, one and two bedroom apartments for people to rent. With good transport links to and from the centre of town and a bus stop outside the car park, Llys Y Brenin offers a quiet location, but just minutes away from the bustling and picturesque heart of Abergavenny town centre.
Work on the site was undertaken by MJ Cosgrove and Hammond Architectural Services Ltd. The development is made up of 12 retirement apartments and five supported living apartments over two blocks. The first incorporates three one bedroom apartments and nine two bedroom units, all including a kitchen, bathroom and lounge/dining area. The second block is a two storey apartment block designed for five supported living apartments made up of five one bedroom units, all including a kitchen, bathroom and lounge/dining area designed for people with learning disabilities who require a degree of support to live independently.
Llys Y Brenin not only provides accommodation in a quiet residential location, but residents can also maintain independence in a safe and secure setting.

Additional benefits include:

  • A central garden area offering space for residents to enjoy a spot of gardening and relaxation
  • Residents parking
  • A range of activities and events hosted organised by MHA and local residents

The communal area also contains a spare single bedroom for support staff and a disabled shower room/WC, which is located in the learning disability block.
Access to the development is from the Old Hereford Road via a new junction arrangement and is central along the boundary of the site, focussing all vehicular movement within one location onto the existing highway. The access serves both blocks while pedestrian access is provided either side of the access site and connects the development with an existing footpath along Old Hereford Road. Seventeen car parking spaces are also available for residents along with a turning area in the site.
Llys Y Brenin is situated in close proximity to a local supermarket, doctors surgery and leisure centre that offers a variety of activities for the local community. Situated on a bus route, Llys Y Brenin offers easy access into Abergavenny where residents can explore and enjoy a number of shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment venues. Abergavenny is nestled between seven hills on the Welsh/English border showcasing the breath-taking local scenery and truly is a ‘Gateway of Wales’ offering the perfect opportunity to explore the Welsh countryside and the nearby Brecon Beacons.
