Styles Field – Homebuyers choose style
An elegant development of 25 contemporary homes, Styles Field in Lewes is proving popular, with over 100 potential purchasers having registered interest well ahead of completion – despite the fact that no marketing has yet been carried out.
The development comprises 16 two, three and four-bedroom terraced houses and nine two and three-bedroom duplexes/apartments.
The scheme is under construction on a brownfield site in a high demand housing area. Main Contractors are Natterjack Construction.
Natterjack Construction was formed in late 2009. After working for a sole developer/ investor in partnership for three years, Natterjack expanded into working for other investors as well, working both as contractor and often developer. Primarily a new homes constructor, the company also has experience in a wide variety of building work, including commercial schemes, conversions and large refurbishments.
Ed Deedman, director of Natterjack Construction said: “The development is divided into two courtyards (North and South), with the North courtyard incorporating 11 houses and seven apartments in one terrace and the South court including five houses and two flats, also in one terrace.
“The properties are of timber frame construction with elevations in a combination of tile hung and zinc cladding.
“The homes are designed with a modern twist on a very traditional look, with grey brickwork and red roof tiles and quoins and concealed gutters, giving a sleek appearance.”
Chandlers Building Supplies Ltd supplied building materials for the project. Specialising in timber, groundworks supplies, roofing, brick matching and landscaping supplies, the company works with all the UK’s leading building materials manufacturers. They had the capabilities to source and supply products to meet the specific design needs of the Styles Field development – even where the materials were not in stock.
Commenting on their involvement with Styles Field, Sue McKinney of Chandlers Building Supplies Ltd, said: “As a Sussex-based company, we had the local knowledge and resources to supply materials for the historic environment in which Styles Field sits. Our flexibility and our range of vehicles meant that we were able to work effectively within the confines of the site location to assist this project across a full range of building material requirements.”
Internally, the homes at Styles Field boast an impressive specification including chevron oak flooring, high quality bathrooms and kitchens with integrated appliances.
All of the properties at Styles Field have parking space, including undercroft parking in the North court, and all have terraces and balconies, with some having patios, all of which will be landscaped.
Kendall Group is supplying foundation and structural concrete for Styles Field, along with Type 1 limestone for the parking and pedestrian areas, small volumes of aggregate for drainage and general work on the site. Kendall Group is a mixed concrete and aggregate supplier with sites in Hampshire, Sussex, South Surrey and West Berkshire.
Andy Luxton, Kendall Group, commented: “As a local supplier it is always good to be involved in local schemes which improve the environment and enhance public services.”
Challenges of the project have included adverse weather – as well as the significant excavation work and removal of soil required to create the undercroft parking area in the North court.
Currently the superstructure for the South Court of Syles Field is finished, with this element of the project due for completion in October and construction of the North court due to commence next January.
Ed Deedman concluded: “This is the largest project we have undertaken so far and construction is going well, with a good team on site.”
