This Month in Premier Construction 25.6
Welcome to the latest edition of Premier Construction magazine.
In this month’s edition, we take a look at a number of projects shortlisted for RIBA Awards including The Old Court House; we check out the work that has been taking place at The Curragh; and we unveil the refurbishment of Haymarket Theatre.
A historic building that had been left derelict for 30 years and was on the verge of collapse has been brought back to its former glory thanks to a major restoration project. The Old Court House forms part of a much larger farm complex, which was purchased along with 20 other buildings on the site by the current owner in 2011.The perilous state of the Old Court House suggested work on it was a priority, and a Section 106 agreement meant all other work on the site was subject to its restoration.
Meanwhile, Ireland’s most important Thoroughbred racecourse for flat racing, The Curragh, is currently undergoing a major redevelopment project which will be completed in time for the 2019 racing season. Designed by Grimshaws, in association with Newenham Mulligan & Associates, the new Curragh will see the creation of world class multi-purpose facilities on a par with the best anywhere in the world. The centrepiece of the redevelopment will see the creation of a major new grandstand which will incorporate five star corporate facilities, restaurants, bars and superb viewing facilities for the public.
And finally, more than 10 years after it closed its doors, Leicester’s Haymarket Theatre has re-opened to the public. The refurbishment took approximately 10 months to complete at a cost of £3.6m and has reinvigorated and modernised the theatre. The flexibility of the venue means it can now host a wide range of events and live performances, including the rapidly-growing eSports industry. The refurbishment of the theatre was led by the Haymarket Consortium, which was formed with the intention of bringing the building back to life.
With all this and more, join us as we explore the impressive construction projects that continue to shape our landscape.
