Invercarse Hotel

Following a significant £1.7m investment, Best Western Invercarse Hotel in the West End of Dundee has opened its stylish 24-bedroom extension.

One of Dundee’s most established hotels, the Invercarse now boasts a significantly increased capacity that will continue to allow the hotel to grow. As well as the extension, the investment has also included a refurbishment of the existing 44 bedrooms, a transformation of the popular Redwood Restaurant and a re-decoration of the ballroom and reception areas.

The Invercarse Hotel is one of 2 hotels in Dundee that trade as Redwood Leisure under the Best Western umbrella, which guarantees a high standard of service and comfort.

The new extension has provided an extra 72 beds and brings the total sleeping capacity to 160. Within the extension there is a greater flexibility of room type formation and a bridal suite, along with easy access and family rooms. Additional car parking space has been provided by reclaiming land at the back of the site.

The design of the extension was overseen by Dundee based architectural firm ARKTX and constructed by George Martin Builders. The work has also included a number of sustainable features that will benefit the environment and help save the hotel money on its energy bills. Rooftop solar panels will provide all the electricity required for the rooms. Additionally, six charging points for electric vehicles have been installed, demonstrating, Redwood Leisure’s commitment to its Green Tourism Business membership.

Rooms at the Invercarse Hotel balance traditional charm and contemporary comfort. All rooms include standard amenities expected from an established hotel, including a Smart TV and complimentary Wi-Fi. The Redwood Restaurant faces out across the River Tay and boasts an extensive food menu that changes on regular basis to utilise fresh, seasonal and local produce.

The extension welcomed its first guests at the end of April, just in time for what promises to be a busy period for the city of Dundee. It was Dundee City Council who first called for an increase to the bed capacity in the city before the long-awaited opening of V&A Dundee. Due to open in September 2018, Scotland’s first design museum will be the only V&A museum in the world outside London. V&A Dundee stands at the centre of the £1 billion transformation of the Dundee waterfront, once part of the city’s docklands.

The refurbishment of Invercarse follows work to its sister hotel, Best Western Woodlands Hotel, which was carried out in 2015. The hotel had a 26-bedroom extension built in preparation for the anticipated demand in the city. The hotel has an indoor pool, fully equipped gym and sauna/jacuzzi has benefited from leisure and golf tourism numbers increasing to the area and this trend looks set to continue once V&A Dundee opens in September. Both properties were snapped up for The Open in July with R&A taking all of the rooms in Woodlands due to the leisure facilities and proximity to Carnoustie.
