High tables, tapas, delicious cocktails and trendy in-house music all define Rockets Lolitas. The atmosphere is perfect for mingling and is a great place for dinner & drinks.
Work on the Rockets Lolitas site started with concept design in 2016 with the site completed on 1 June 2017. Premier Hospitality International spoke to Wesley Bremer from Soda Custom about the project.
What was the brief for this project?“The brief was to push the boundaries on design in the restaurant and bar industry. The client wanted a product that would blow people away on an international level so the look was to be industrial sophistication incorporating a mix of earth products such as steel bars, leather and concrete with a mix of luxury marble cladding, velvets and polished stucco.”
Could you give us some details about the scale of the development?“The venue is 1800m2 and is divided into four floors. The basement houses a fully functioning venue with a bar, bathrooms and outside garden area. The ground floor is the restaurant area with bar and fully fledged kitchen. The first floor houses a bar area with the main bar, champagne bar, private Cognac room and wrap around balcony area. Finally the top floor is the rooftop with four private cabanas, DJ booth and its own bar.”
Are there any design features of particular interest throughout the space?
“There are many as we strived to customise each and every element in the space, however the pieces that stand out the most for me are:
- Handcrafted chipped artwork – On the restaurant level we commissioned artist Justin from Nomad to take an image of an American Indian woman’s face and chip by hand into the brick and plaster. This created a real focal point and with the correct lighting, gives a real talking point in the venue.
- Custom lighting – To fill up the amazing double volume space throughout the venue, we have custom made hand blown glass pendant lighting with filament globes. These unique shapes with the warm orange light filter through the entire setting.
- Greenery – We have gone completely over the top on this! We have faux plants hanging from the ceilings, walls clad in intricate vertical gardens and even a one of a kind four metre high cherry blossom tree as a feature in our basement garden area. This element is critical in such a modern industrial space, to soften and add a warm earthy feel throughout the venue.”
Have you had any feedback about the project?
“The venue has been really well received – people just love it. There really is something for everyone to enjoy in the space and we have already won a ‘Best Restaurant SA Award’ for 2017.”
The project has been nominated for a Restaurant & Bar Design Award. How does it feel to get that nomination?
“This is our first nomination so it is a great feeling and makes us super proud that our work is being recognised not only locally but on an international stage.”
