The Brehon Bar at Knockranny House Hotel
The Brehon Bar at Knockranny House Hotel has one of the best locations in the county from which to survey the beauties of Clew Bay, spread as it is across the first floor of this beloved and indulgent destination hotel.
Now the Brehon Bar is looking better than ever, thanks to an elegant refurbishment that redistributes the seating, so more guests get to enjoy the spectacular views, as well as giving award-winning bar manager Owen Hughes an appropriately magnificent new bar from which to provide his renowned selection of cocktails, fine wines and craft beers.
The total refurbishment of the Brehon Bar has seen local tradesmen working closely with a local interior designer in choosing materials and features that add to the relaxed and cosy sense of Irishness that is at the heart of Knockranny House Hotel.
From the solid wood smoked oak parquet flooring, to works of art by Irish artists, to the sensory delights of the Harris tweed-covered chairs and grey limestone fireplace, that classic country house sense of comfort and cosiness is enhanced by the addition of a nod to the more well-travelled side of Irish culture, represented by glowing modern feature chandeliers and textured linen wall-coverings from France.
The curved bar counter in polished dark solid wood with gleaming brass accents has an Art Deco feel, and the hand-made glass tiles that surround the ‘Gin Palace’ style back bar come from Italy.
This gorgeous new setting, allied to multi award-winning chef Seamus Commons’ fantastic new bar menu, means that the Brehon Bar is set to become even more popular than ever, an ideal setting for leisurely afternoon tea, a perfect backdrop to celebratory nights out, and the only place in town for the very finest cocktails. Happy Hour runs daily from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., when all drinks from the impressive bible of over 40 classic and contemporary cocktails at Knockranny House Hotel are only €7.
Chef Seamus Commons has added to the firm favourites on the bar menu with, among other new exciting dishes, a lavish new seafood platter that changes daily. From shore to door, showcasing the finest fish from the west coast of Ireland (therefore the best in the world), the Knockranny Seafood Platter (the Wild Atlantic Way Platter) represents Seamus’s passion for the very best, and will feature a selection of seafood prepared in-house.
Every day the selection will change, being a mix of pickled, cured and smoked fish and shellfish that represents the very best of the region. Costing just €18 per person or €30 for a sharing plate for two, there is no better way of getting a taste for this part of the world than with this carefully curated platter of edited highlights from the best seafood available!
All the bar food on this sophisticated bar menu has the accomplished touch of chef Seamus Commons, from the luscious house burger to the sensational buttermilk chicken to the elegant afternoon tea pastries, and all at exceptionally good prices.
Serving bespoke blend locally roasted Bean West coffee and housemade breads and smoked salmon, all of which are available to take away as gifts or just to enjoy at home, there is a full food menu on offer from 12.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and until 9.30 p.m. on weekends, ranging from snacks to main courses to desserts, as well as a full afternoon tea.
The new Brehon Bar at Knockranny House Hotel has a team of experts looking after each aspect of its offering. With delicious, great value food, an impressive and refined choice of cocktails and drinks, and a beautiful new setting, every element has been judged to perfection. So from the deep-buttoned velvet club chairs to sink into with a perfectly poured creamy pint to the sparkling and elegant bar to sit at with a masterfully made Margarita, or from a comfy couch surveying the beauty of Clew Bay with a divinely decadent afternoon tea to a shared platter of spankingly fresh seafood with a crisp glass of bubbles, the Brehon Bar is the place to be.

“Knockranny House Hotel is exactly the type of project we love to get our teeth into – we were very proud to be part of this. Adrian and Geraldine make it their business to employ local trades people, which is very much appreciated.”
“We love working on local projects with our local tradesmen, showcasing our talented workforce worldwide and we get great job satisfaction seeing the finished space and knowing it will be part of this hotel for many years to come.”
Creative Wood prides themselves on their quality and service, catering to each individual need, style and taste. During the process the Creative Wood team spend time with each client discussing all aspects of the design and use of the space to ensure the project can be taken from start to finish.
“A kitchen is the centre of a home, so it must be a comfortable and practical space. Our designers take a personal interest in ensuring that the best possible design and layout is developed for each client and the end result is a design that exceeds expectations.
“Unique features such as curved doors and dovetail drawers further distinguish our clients’ kitchens and furniture as that of high quality that is rarely equalled. All doors and frames are made from solid hardwood and therefore we can make custom kitchens from any type of wood, shape or colour to suit any size or height.”
