The Old Ground Hotel
The Old Ground Hotel, Ennis recently unveiled its refurbished Banner Room banqueting suite following a hugely significant €300,000 makeover earlier this year. The beautifully refurbished room combines the warmth of a country house with the luxury of a contemporary Irish hotel, offering soon-to-be brides and grooms a space to rival Ireland’s finest wedding venues.
A major factor in the decision to upgrade the Banner Room in the Flynn family owned property was the significant wedding trade seen by the hotel in recent times. Speaking about the project, proprietor of the Old Ground, Allen Flynn said: “We now have a new focus on our very successful wedding market and a more discerning conference client, and decided it was time that the banqueting suite reflected this. The upgraded ballroom sees a more flexible offering that can be dressed according to needs, ideal for today’s weddings and events.”
Steeped in history and tradition, the four star Old Ground Hotel is located in the heart of Ennis and right on the doorstep of the breath taking Cliffs of Moher and Wild Atlantic Way, boasting immaculate private gardens which provide an enchanting backdrop for a perfect wedding day. With the refurbishment, it was important to respect the history of the building and maintain the grand feel that it is synonymous with; whilst upgrading to create a luxurious, elegant and contemporary space filled with a rich, soft colour scheme and furnishings. The project was led by designer Lucinda Batt from The Interior Library, with significant input from Allen Flynn on all elements of the refurbishment.
Shades of golden sand and teal blue throughout the room are reflective of the hotel’s proximity to the Wild Atlantic Way, and the room’s colour scheme sees panelling in a soft grey tone to complement the rich golden, embossed wallpaper which has a platinum floral pattern finish. Plush ceiling to floor velvet curtains, luxuriously soft carpet, crushed velvet upholstery on couches and chairs, and fringed velvet cushions create a warmth to the room; while elegant chandeliers, tall table lamps with suede shades, leather upholstered cocktail style high stools and an ice-grey marble topped bar counter add the contemporary elements that appeal to so many couples on their big day.
Mary Gleeson, General Manager of the Old Ground said: “Over the years countless brides and grooms have chosen to let the team at The Old Ground Hotel take care of them on their special day. Our team is committed to making dream weddings come to life by ensuring that every detail is executed to absolute perfection, and our newly renovated Banner Room is the ideal space to celebrate with loved ones and create memories to last a lifetime.”
The Old Ground’s food offering complements the upgraded banqueting suite perfectly, with sumptuous local produce such as Burren lamb and the best of seafood caught on the Clare coast, carefully prepared by Head Chef Freddie Rynne and his team.
The refurbishment project also saw the addition of two air-conditioned Deluxe bedrooms to the hotel’s Manor House. Pale duck egg blue, soft grey, soft beige, and rich cream colours, set against crisp white, coupled with luxurious furnishings have been used to create elegant, relaxing rooms with a contemporary feel; tying in with the hotel’s existing bedrooms and suites. Each new room features an impressive walk in shower set in the original window bay of the room. The Deluxe double is ideal for a romantic getaway for two, while the new Deluxe triple room is the perfect base for a ladies shopping break in Ireland’s boutique capital.
The works in the Old Ground are part of a €3m investment in refurbishment works across the Flynn Hotel group’s four properties, which also include the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny; The Imperial Hotel, Cork City; and The Park Hotel, Dungarvan.
